Exhaust Gas Temperature (EGT)
I bought a Pyrometer through Parrotts in town. Got the gauge, probe and wire seperately. The wire was special (not sure if high or low resistance) and had to just cut it to fit. The gauge was harder as had to supply 12 volts to that and the truck is 24v.
So length of wire should not matter if is part of a kit.

As I brought 2 Pyrometer's VDO Type, Ive done a run with the 1m cable, Noted the temp EGT, then I will change over to the 5m cable. Which I will post later.
Flat road , no wind, and maintaining a constant speed
1m cable : 60kmh 300degrees
70kmh 400 degrees
80kmh 400 degrees
90kmh 425degrees

Just a little comment: The VDO Pyrometer that I brought was a WWG Vision Pyrometer Kit 0-900deg
Part No 310-159
This Kit has no fitting instructions ( so dos not say not to shorten the loom)
My friend brought a VDO Marine Type Pyrometer ( at TWICE THE PRICE ) and it came with fitting instructions that say Don't cut the loon.

Check out these ones in this thread. Can be used for lots of things including EGT.

Re: Exhaust Gas Temperature (EGT)
The www.auberins.com units via Ebay work well.
Can't verify calibration but got to be as good as anything sold in the speed shops here. Plus if you ditch the truck you can remove them and use it for different measurments..
Water / oil temp. Boost..... just get different sender units and reconfigure the unit..All in the instructions.
As to how many are using them from this forum....
Heath and Me.
Any others???
I found the unit while doing a google search and a bunch of Aussies purchased them with good results last year and 2008.

From the website.Accuracy
±0.2% or ±1 unit of full input range

Great to know - ill check out their website - most likely will order one shortly.
I was planning on putting a hole into each exhaust runner pre turbo on my new manifold so i can plug up 5 while measuring one individually to measure the difference between injectors etc too...
+ EGT to shopping list

How will you monitor all 5 at once? Are you going to get 5 complete units or a rotary switch with 5 sensors and one display unit?
Re: Exhaust Gas Temperature (EGT)
I was personally only planning on buying one - if anyone else wants one let me know and ill order a couple or more.
Hopefully we save a bit on freight...

Re: Exhaust Gas Temperature (EGT)
Im with ya. Six holes, 5 plugged and one with a probe connected to the unit. Shift it around to test each cylinder - clever.

I guess I could have been more descriptive there huh

I re-read it and realised how it sounded

Re: Exhaust Gas Temperature (EGT)
To be honest I wonder why someone hasn't bought the rights to import them here and sell them. There is nothing comparable in NZ at the moment for the same price (to my knowledge). I guess as they become more prevalent and people se them/ use them the demand may rise.
