What is a good portable air compressor for pumping up tyres.

Post by local buoy »

hey guys,Im looking for a portable compressor to pump the tyres up after deflating for sand driving.what are some things I need to look out for?

I see repco has a 120psi 12v 20L/min for $40 and also a 150psi 12v 40L/min for $ 70 this one has connections to go directly on the battery (if that makes a difference?).

Are these gonna do the job?

what size tires are you inflating, and from what pressure? generally the smaller output compressor models also have a low duty cycle, so they get hot and cut-out more regularly......

get something that is above 55LPM flow rate, bushranger do a great range of portable units...
i used to Cruise, now i PATROL

looks very similar to the ones from supercheap - terrain tamer brand maybe? They do big specials on them in their mailer thing every so often.

forget those cheap $70 jobs. they are only suitable for a small car tire at best. you would be struggling to get one stock standard 4x4 tire pumped up let alone 4 of them.

these come out under different names, sometimes with different features/fittings.
i have project typhoon which is looks the same, but i had to mod it a bit due to a design fault it has. also the stock cable on a lot of those is fairly crap.
just remember to weigh in the cost of mods and cabling etc. it can work out not far off what an ARB is worth and the ARB is a far better kit.

we have a dive tank set up as well but cant really take that with us if we want to bring home paua.I dont live far from the quarry(WGTN) so not that big a deal to drive home on 20psi(I guess?) then pump up. just thought it would be handy if I needed to while over the gate.
