Hi people. New around here, just bought a '91 Pajero from TM... for a low, low price... something had to be wrong. Anyways, planning on using it mainly for surf missions (Muriwai, 90 Mile Beach etc.).
So the thing is, it's auto and the overdrive is gone. Click the switch at 100km, and revs only move 100-200rpm, apparently it should move about 1000rpm. It's doing about 3800rpm @ 100km, which is not cool. Checking on some UK paj sites tells me it's probably the OD clutch, couple of transmission shops here reckon it's the same thing... Also, they reckon only way to fix properly is a recon transmission ($2000+).
Anyone had similar problems, or got ideas/advice? Don't really want to drop that much cash if I don't have to. Was planning on spending my next pay on a 2nd battery & isolator...

Re: Pajero Overdrive Clutch
No easy fix, trans will have to come out, OD clutch linings would have disintergrated. Down side is all those bits go through the rest of trans so is licking bomb
Cheapest is find sec-hand trans.

S3 Rover truck cab, injected 186, Sals rear,Toyota P/steer, Safari disc brakes front, R/Rover D/brakes rear, 9500 winch, twin optima batts, roll bar, Disco seats, 33" JTs, scene lamps, onboard air, Front ARB locker.

Hrm, yeah, thought that was the case. Don't think I'll go down the second hand box route though, OD going at this age seems to be fairly common, so with my luck probably would have the same thing happen 6 months down the track.
