1KZ Mechanical Fuel Pump

Post by Landcruiser70 »

Has anyone done it?

Was talking to Phill (Traxion) and he reckons 4WD accesories are selling a kit. Apparently putting out some good performance :D . Might flick them an email.

Would be interesting to hear from anyone whos done it?

I have driven a 1kz pre and post the change, you can get performance out of replacing the computer but with the mechanical pump conversion and some fine tuning to get the results from your setup the difference is impressive.

I think the difference is the tuning ability of the of the manual pump to your specific configuration rather than the generic safe and generic tweaked computer upgrades.

Give them a call Monday.

I believe they take a 2.4 mechanical pump with boost compensator and fit new internals for the extra fuel flow requirements. but have also heard that it has a drastic effect on fuel economy but have not been able to confirm this yet.

I got it done to my truck a wee while ago, id never look back now, from what i beleive its the 2.4 (2l) pump with bits and pieces from the 2.8 and 3.0. Fuel economy was bad for a start, but then wound up the boost, after that the fuel economy was a hell of a lot better and the truck had more power :D :D :D its a fells like a big difference from stock

Hmm ok, was yours from 4WD accessories? How much was it? Easy to put on etc?

Depends on if your truck is an auto or a manual, as its a mechanical pump with a throttle lever, ie you need a throttle cable going to the mechanical pump too. Apart from that it looked pretty easy, just a direct replacement, and had to fab a few little brackets etc, then find a ignition live wire for the fuel soleniod, and thats bout it. Cant remember the cost, wasnt a kit, i got mine off a guy who works there as he was building a different one with different specs as his 1kz was getting a bigger turbo

is this what you fit to elimate the computer/electrics?
Excuse the stoopid question, not up to play with diesels/electrics..
Was talking to someone about possibilty of fitting a 1KZ to my truck and when i questioned the computer side of it they said do the mechanical fuel pump conversion

Yes this pump removes the computer regulated pump.

I have seen conversions where the factory computer was still used and where a chipped computer was used, there is more to installing and tuning this pump than a straight bolt on but the performance from the vehicle is better than factory and better than the after market chip.

Well with the ones I have driven anyway, there is more than one chip out there the one I drove was an aussie chip more performance but not an individual tune.
