Mounting a WARN vertically.

Post by Taz »

Got a 9500lbs Warn, looking at bolting it to a mount that is vertical rather than horizontal and tucking it in front of the chassis cross member.

Is this alright to do, or will it not spread the load correctly? Using 12.9 bolts.

Cheers, Taz.

Vertical as spool on its end ? I think you will find it will bunch up the winch cable / rope at the bottom end and jam it all up...

comes down to the pull strenght of the mounting feet
in normal opperation the feet are in sheer loading
on a vertical service the feet are taking pull loading as well as the bolts

My warn was mounted in this way, and so is the EWX 12.000lb. It helpede in getting it right back towards the radiator. I have not had any issues.

Schweet. What sort of bolts are you using? My main worry was most the load being on the nuts rather than the actual bolt. Will go with a finer thread.

weve been building the frame to hold the winch forward of the winch means turning the winch around pulling winch into the frame thus no stress on the bolts and provides protection as well and yep 8.8 bolts

Yep, that's exactly like mine :D Pulls it right back. :D Only exception is the plate folds from the top down the vertical front plane and angled back down under the bottom as a protection plate. All one piece and part of the front bar. Winch is contained within and well protected.

can you weld your winch plate to your chassis or does it have to be bolted? or does it mount to the bumper itself? 1st time installing a wincch on a 4x4 :D
