roll cage fixin points/mounts
im needin some help on where to put my roll cage mounts as where i will like to put them in my nissan swb patrol is right where the body mounts are. arrr!
Re: roll cage fixin points/mounts
Can you put them close to there then tie them into the body/chassis mounts?
Didn't barbie drive a jeep??
Re: roll cage fixin points/mounts
What are you building the rollcage for? What spec are you building it to? Which specific mount are you talking about and what size footing plates are you using? Are you going to have the footing plates mounted in 2 planes? Are you talking about a roll bar or a full 6 point cage?
I would suggest the best way to do it is to use the rollcage footing plate to reinforce the body mount and at the same time this will then mean the main hoop is chassis mounted so will comply with ORANZ rules. What I did on my old GQ was use the body mount bolt as one of the 4 bolts that are used to mount the cage. It is a little more work to do it this way but the end result is a far stronger setup all round.
Lastly building a rollcage isn't just a matter of joining a few pieces of tube together so be very sure of the design BEFORE you start mounting things. The number that I see that rely on the strength of the steel rather than good design is amazing. People forget the basics like triangulation. and ANY bend must be reinforced.
