Mitsubishi Challenger: Issues or major probs!!!!

Post by RJ »

Hi team,

Well I started with a Pajero, which we sold and bought a Wrangler, that is now for sale! Anyone interested: http://www.te.co.nz/te-motors/Cars/4WD- ... 106172.htm

Now I want to go to a Mitsubishi Challenger. I like the size and the creature comforts. We are sort of heading away from the tight twisty bush type 4wheeling and probably do more tag alongs etc.

Anyway, does anyone know of any major probs with the Challengers. I am guessing they, like all Mitsi V6's, love the taste of fuel and "gulp" accordingly. Price wise we are probably looking at something with 100-150k's, I am thinking.

Any comments or links to web sites highlighting factory issues or problems would be appreciated.

Cheers

add mud tyres any thing near 31.9 mm in dia, a 2'' lift kit , and rear locker , differnently remove the plastic flares, ARB bar and winch, then you be set, oh change to front manual hubs,

They were based on the Triton but are getting further removed from them as they evolve.

Try and get a later one with coil rear springs. The first ones (same shape) were leaf.

The later ones (jap ones) also came with the excellent super select 4WD system which you will be used to. Most of the bits are interchangeable with the Pajero so you get strong running gear. If its got the superselect then you don't need to worry about changing to manual hubs.

Not quite as easy to get 33's on as a Pajero due to slightly smaller wheel arch's but a body lift should take care of that.

Thats great, cheers for that.

I take it from the responses that other than the usual maintenance etc, that there were no major issues. That also agrees with what I found on the web which was little or no major issues.

Intention would be to keep this one simple. Workload offroad would be reasonably light. Was going to even try and avoid any lifts, (lol) famous last words.

Hi Coxy, your mates looks the part. Nice truck.

Will start looking and cross fingers for Wrangler sales.

Cheers team.
