Disconection of lockup in Nissan Safari auto

Heres the problem:
Basically 1 to 3 gears seem fine currently, 4 unlocked seems fine, but going in to 4th lockup it shudders, and takes some massaging of the accelerator to get it to change cleanly, once it has full changed into lockup it drives fine.

The mildly cunning plan:
The plan is to disconnect the lockup, as this is an offroad truck, not worth toooo much, doesnt tow, and im quite happy driving at 85 kph on the road.
Ideally if there are some wires i can cut to increase the lockup pressure on the clutch to get rid of the shudder that would be ideal, but otherwise I would like some information on how to either stop lockup, or add a manual switch (wish will rarely be used)

Wiring diagrams an any info would be much appreciated,

This is intended to be a temperay fix until I have sourced a cheap replacement transmission, so if any one has done a manual conversion and has a good working auto lying around...IM KEEN

i can tell you the colour wire u need to cut as i have got a manual lock up switch,i check 2moz for you to be sure,also i have a manual 5spd box transfer box forsale and flywheel if you wana do a conversion

Your problem is the torque convertor linings are coming apart. The particles that come of will block the factory trans cooler which in turn restricts fluid flow to getset and causes complete trans meltdown. Disconnecting the lock up will get rid of a sympton but the problem will get worse.
Cheap fix is TC rebuilt for under $300 if you pull it out yourself. Leave it as it is and you'll be up for a complete auto rebuild or replacement. Just doing the TC might give you a long time of no problems.
I'd suggest doing an oil and filter change. Pull the filter apart and see what is inside it, chances are ALOT of crap. Make sure you give the auto a good flush and then put it all together with new TC.
Or drive it to it stops, which could be a long time or could be tomorrow?

Had a full flush a few weeks ago, and yes there was alot of debris in the filter...Hmm...once the TQ is flaking do they fall apart rapidly, Im just mindful that the truck only does shortish runs, every few weeks. Pulling out a TQ sounds a big job, and may only be half the problem. Are there any other tell-tail signs of other problems...and any other common failure components.

To take the TC out requires you to pull the tramission which isn't as hard as a clutch job but similar.
If you have just had the auto flushed and it is still doing it then the TC is coming apart quick.

If you loose drive, turn off the engine then turn it back on and you have drive again, then that is the pick up getting blocked and it is getting REALLY critical. Much more and it is completely stuffed.
