Would take a shit load of rain to wash those away, that stream is really wide. It leads up to farmland which I think is part of the farm the wind farm is on. Those trees were prob just cut down to makeway for the windmill construction roads or something. Wouldnt have taken much effort to put them there. Not sure who owns it but it would seem they really dont want us up there anymore
It looks like someone has fenced off a stream, which as far as I'm aware (and I could well be wrong?) is generally not allowed unless the fence is able to be temporally dropped to give the public access to the stream.
It sets a really good example to the 4x4 community when a property owner has to pay to get a dozer in to block access to all the 4x4's that continualy tresspass on his property without asking permission or giving a fark

I totally agree Marty, and the fact the property owner HAS done it, obviously means he has the RIGHT to do it.
Guys time to face reality. The OWNER of the land doesnt want people on there for some reason. and whatever his reason we all need to RESPECT IT. The more people piss owners off the more land we loose... And this thread isnt gonna help things. outside people will read this and start thinking we are all assholes. If areas around there get abused the next step will be something outragish and harsh like restricting vehicle access to red rocks full stop. An action I myself would be absolutely gutted to see!
So technically it would seem whomever built that barrier shouldn't have.
However, I think a much more elegant way to get that barrier removed would be to think outside the box. the barrier is across a stream, barriers across streams are commonly known as dams. So, write a letter to the WCC asking for a copy of the resource consent for the dam that has been constructed across Karori stream. There is no way the council would let you dam a stream without a resource consent. Then the council will have to go an investigate and the land owner will have to deal with that can or worms.

I think the area that Skid is referring to is further along the coast than Karori Stream and the South Makara Rd shown on the WCC map. I think the stream that Skid is describing is the Wai-ariki Stm. The status of that road shown is not defined on the map and I think the road is an access road built when the sewer outfall was put in.

You are correct MikeL200 karori Stream is back towards the batches.
Monk Its not a dam as it doesnt restrict water flow at all. It would be more classed as a bridge. Any way. What does it matter? Its someone elses land.
as the initial post said, we have lost a play area
I never stated that it was a play area we should of been using in the first place, but lets face it, every man and his dog has been scooting up the creek 100m and shooting up the track to the muddy bits on the plateau.
now I have no idea who owns the land and the map that has been linked a few posts earlier clearly shows the area as shaded purple, now I'm not sure if that means its actually a secret homosexual area or what, but it obviously shows something.
As a few others have stated, I believe we need to just let it be and not attempt to bypass the blockage, I'm thinking that the area is part of Terawhiti Station as there is a house on the hill above the logs and a new track has been created from that house to the blockage by the digger they used.
Now we have had an awesome rapport in the past with Terawhiti Station and if we wish to gainaccess to the property again, then we should stay away from the area concerned.
The south coast is a pristine area that Wellingtonians are lucky to have access to and we dont want to go ruining that by causing havoc and tresspassing.
I like to use the area as a user friendly drive where you can take a fishing rod or some dive gear or a bbq and enjoy the surroundings. Its a great place to take the kids and also an easy place to go by yourself if you have the experience and take friends and family from out of town and show them the seals and the scenary etc etc etc
lets not get all upset because one landowner finally had enough of the users ripping up his property. we have enough trouble accessing land as it is to be ruining our chances of accessing more.
years ago there were no signs or anything round there, now there are signs everywhere telling you to stay out because its 'Private Property'. That tells me that nobody is listening or adhering to the signs and people are forced to take more drastic action like erecting a massive wire fence to keep you off the dunes and if we continue to show blatant dis-regard for authority then we are gonna lose more areas and they will eventually put in place the mother of all gates so that we can't drive round the south coast at all.
Wake up people and start behaving and respecting other peoples property, otherwise it will all be lost.
With regards to the paper road up Karori Stream, I wouldnt be trying it. Im not sure if its the current owner or the previous owner, but quite a few years ago we accessed the baches via Long Gully and Karori Stream on a friday night only to leave not long after we arrived as the landowner made a point of racing down with his son and loaded rifle and shotgun to fly off the handle and abuse the crap out of us. Loaded guns had us making the decision to abandon our planned club weekend bfore it had really started.
LETS NOT MAKE THIS ANY WORSE
RESPECT THE DECISIONS THAT HAVE BEEN MADE
