NZFWDA National PRO

Post by Moriarty »

Greetings to you all.

The NZFWDA AGM and election of officers is coming up, held in Palmerston North this year.

I wish to announce my intention of standing for the role of

National Public Relations Officer.

A small history of myself.

Bob Packard
65 yrs old

Image

I have experienced 60 years of hunting and fishing, and more lately, 4Wding
Over those years, I have been very involved in various Clubs.

    • As part of the Deerstalkers Assoc in Tokoroa I was both Rangemaster, and Newsletter Editor for some years

    • Waikato Commodore Computer Users Group, as President for several years

    • I have been heavily involved with OffRoadExpress Association and taking that organisation into Kiwi4x4 Incorporated as President. I was also the newsletter editor for them for two years.

During my time here in Wanganui, I was firstly an Election worker for my Member of Parliament, and then also a successful campaign manager for her, for two elections.
This last has given me a working knowledge of how the Govt system works and a personal knowledge of many of the current crop of MPs.

I am now, and always have been, an avid and keen outdoors-man.

Although 4Wding is a new game for me, the problems that beset 4Wders are the same as those that beset all other outdoors-men, ACCESS to areas to hunt fish walk ride and DRIVE.

I feel that with my background outlined above, and my experience, age and general knowledge, that I would be the ideal candidate for the role.

Accordingly, I ask for your support in the voting at the NZFWDA AGM.

Yours, with the utmost respect,

Part of what I am about is membership.

Because of my very interesting time as a campaign manager, I learnt the hard way, a very valuable lesson.

Govts DONT and NEVER do, listen to a single voice, unless its backed by lots of money..... (I AM a cynic)

Hence, the opening comment, the more members we have, with affiliated clubs, the louder and more insistent our group voice becomes, and the more inclined Govt is to listen.

During one election some years back, the NZDA had a bumper sticker, reading, 4000 New Zealanders hunt, fish and VOTE!!! Add them to the fellow members of the Federated mountain Clubs and we were a voice they surely listened to!!

So, guys, find a good club, JOIN and add your voice to that of your fellow 4WDers to help retain our paper Roads, State Forest Access, Etc.

They WILL listen, and act in our interests if their Parliamentary Seats are threatened by our voting, this I promise you.

sounds good. is puplic relations manager a position that is hotly contested ? or are we happy if we can just get someone to take the position? Ok if I circulate your above spiel to our members. I may even make it to the meeting to see how these things work.

All the best with your campaign Bob, I'm sure getting up into an exec position isnt easy without moving your way up through the zones first but having said that regardless of who the successful candidate for the position is its got to be healthy for any organisation to have a bit of competition to ensure we secure the right motivated people for the roles and keep an injection of fresh blood and ideas coming through the ranks.

You've got a good proven track record of settling kiwi 4x4 into a well run stable club during your term of president and I'm sure you can take those skills and make a good contribution to the NZ4WDA exec and the 4wd community as a whole if your successfull in your endevour.

There have been lots of grumbles for a while about the way the zones and exec have been run and the only way to resolve anything is to get involved and get behind it

There is at least one other person contesting. Obviously we both feel that we can do a better job than the other!! :D :D

NO, we should NOT be happy to just be grateful SOMEONE has filled the position, competition is healthy.

Yes, Please do take a copy, print it, or even email it around your membership.

If you want someone who knows me personally, try Liz Dawson, Reece Barber Tony Hickmott who MAY say niceish things about me.

Well, this is, on the surface, an easy question to answer. However, the more I tried, the harder it got!!
This is an excerpt from the NZFWDA Constitution, which does NOT answer your question, actually poses MORE questions for me.

excerpt from the NZFWDA Constitution wrote:DUTIES OF THE NATIONAL PUBLIC RELATIONS OFFICER

The National Public Relations Officer shall: -

(a) Disseminate all information of relevance on land access and public relations matters to Executive members, Zone Committees, Clubs, and members.

(b) Co-ordinate negotiations with Government Departments and lobbying groups, etc., regarding land access issues.

(c) Assist Zone Public Relations Officers on all matters of publicity and land access.

(d) Present an Annual Report to the AGM.

The statement , (C) is one that grabs me more than any other issue. The matter of access. Little things like the foreshore and seabed act covers far too much scope, as does matters like the privatisation of rivers, the "Walking access bill" which, during one of its readings, HAD to include all land access types, looks fair to have WHEELED access written out.

Last, but not least, is working with the Zone PROs and ensuring they are looking after the smaller stuff in their areas and co-ordinating areas of targets, ensuring that the Zones are also working with the Clubs (as clubs always say that zones and associations do nothing for them) and being seen to be doing it and giving regular reports back.

NPRO is looking at the big picture

Hope that helps, Access to crown and other public lands is still my most (to me) important area.
Regards........

XJ told me the other day, that affiliated membership has fallen from 3200 a couple of years ago (or thereabouts) down to 2000.

Therefore, to increase the strength of our voice with Govt, we should have a membership drive, and trying to effect THIS is also something I feel we should do. Carrying on from the good beginnings of Gail Osman who desgined a good flyer we could hand around.

The Two thing that Govts listen to, are well reasoned debate delivered by the NUMBERS of potential voters who may vote against them at the next election.

Thank you to all who phoned, PM's etc their support and humour.

I will probably try again next year.

From this you may correctly gather that I missed, but not by very much!!! They now know that there is a keen contest coming at them.

Thanks again, B
