Massive tank in the Patrol

Post by piebuss »

I was pretty sure my 95 GQ Patrol had an 85L tank but I went to the Manakau Rd Mobil yesterday and it took 89L to fill.........

I told the guy behind the counter that I was pretty sure his machine was over reading cause the most I've ever put in is 85L and I've had the truck since new.........

So it's one of the following

1. Manakau Rd Mobil are ripping ppl off
2. I've never had the tank that empty (it was stalling  ) and it's actually a 90 L tank, or
3. My tank has miracuallously enlarged it'self.....

My guess is the most likely one, option 1

there is a govt dept that watches this stuff like a hawk, commerce or similar, they have a "inspector" that can call in and do random checks, if you that adamant then get a container and work out exactly 20 litres is when on level ground, go in and buy 20 litres and check what you get, if it wrong and the servo does nothing you may have the fukers by the balls

I'd doubt it, all the servo's have to get their pumps calibrated and certified, fuelquip does most of them and they wouldnt be delibrately mis calibrating them for the servo's

I'm convinced mine in the swb pig is definitely 90or larger. Always thought it was 60l as the guage at empty would always take around 55-60l. When I swapped tanks over and had to drain it, I thought it wwas near empty as the needle had been on E for a few days. Still filled a 20l jerry can and then some plus what was on the driveway. Iam now conviced mine is 90l without the dents of course. I should carry a jerry can around and let the pig run out one day just to see how much it actually takes.

I ran mine to a E and then a bit more and parked right at the end of the drive where the footpath meets the gutter (so a very slight slope) and the farker wouldn't start. Pushed it so it was on the flat and it did :? So if it is supposed to be 95L tank there is a massive design flaw.

Theres a little sticker type thing on the side of all pumps with the date of when it was last checked for accuracy. Usually a fuelquip one as mentioned above.

I can't really argue with the responses given so far. I must have never had it bone dry before.....

There was a time up north in Russell where it was parked on a hill and wouldn't start. An extra 5L canister plus just under 80L at the station filled it up, but as mentioned before there must be a lot stored when it's parked on a hill that doesn't meet the fuel lines.......

Oh well, quite interesting to find out that it's probably a 95L not an 85 as IO thought.....

My 96 GQ has an 85 ish liter tank. ie it will take about 87 -88 litres but never put 90 in it.
My old SWB had a 65l and a mates SWB has 75 and that is the same age and model as my old one!

I had the tank out and drained tipped 10 liters in it and drove 2km to the fuel station and she still took 90 liters from my understanding there is a 65,75,85 and a 96L tank but But I still don't know why mine took 4L more.

Because there is always expansion room designed into the tank and we always overfill them.
