Lockright diff locks

Post by DaveM »

Hi all,
whats the differences between a Lokka and Lockright diff lock? Which would be better quality? I can get a front lockright for the GQ for under $300aus new. Worth it?

 From what i have "READ", not from personal experience.....

The Lokka is an Australian knock-off of either the Detroit or the Lockright, not sure which. "Apparently" they are not as good, they wear quickly and start to slip or come unlocked underload.Thats just what i have heard.

Saying that, i have a lockright as you know, and that is well and truly locked and nothing i have tried yet will make it come unlocked by itself. Not even driving in circles on ashfelt  (can make it ratchet by leavering the teeth apart through the filler hole

Anyways, go for the lockright!!!

They are probably much the same? There are plenty of posts you can search on forums, try outerlimits http://www.outerlimits4x4.com/PHP_Modules/phpBB2/

That sounds like a pretty good price, is it ex Aussie or landed here?

They are from Outerlimits, $290 ono, but I'm over there next week, so free postage :D well, if I'm under the weight limit :?

So far 3 prs altezza crystalised headlights, 1pr H/D lower trailing arms, 1 set TD adjustable shocks, 1 set adj. panhards, and maybe 1 lockright.

Looks like the missus can't bring anything back

I have read the outerlimits posts and they said that most failures are due to not intsalling properly. I am looking at geting and auto locker in the front of my surf and was planing to putting it in myself. how hard is this? what exactly do you have to do? should i be paying someone elce to do this?

If you can read the instructions, step by step, and have a set of feeler guages, and dont mind getting your hand dirty ,go for it.
The first time can take a while to get your head around it.
Depending on which lokker you choose.

Here's a link to the same question over a year ago

Ah the old lokka's wear out and lockrite's don't
Had my diff apart a couple of weeks ago (installed it in a wide axle housing).......and low and behold the Lokka still doesn't have any signs of wear still turning 35inch tyres though a supra repower, and still stays locked after 2 years abuse
Go for what you can get the cheapest, either brand work identically and lokka brand certainly appear to wear fine on my beastie and quite a few others who run them and frequent this site

And there you have it, a personal experience with the Lokka brand.

So you have heard from peole that have had a good run out of the lockright and the Detroit, from me who is having drama with my Lockright, accounts of people having Drama with the Lokka and a personal account from someone who has ahd two yerars trouble free 4wheeling with the Lokka brand.

Let tha price decide!!!!!

I ran with dual Lokkas for three years in my old truck (supra repowered & 35" Simex) - they never once missed a beat.
