Lockright or Lokka?

Post by Sadam_Husain »

I've got a couple of spare diff heads and have been tossing up for a while whether to try an auto locker, the intention being to put the LSD into storage and convert a standard single pinion diff to try.

I got a price for a lokka a few months back delivered at $560 (may not be current $ anymore?) and have just got a price for a Lockright delivered at $750, both including GST

searching around on various forums the Lockright seems to be condidered stronger and more prefered than the Lokka?

The trucks got a sb chev (70 series cruiser) but isnt flogged or driven excessively hard, but reliability is always going to be a priority because breakdowns and failures are a pain in the #$%^* arse!!

Anyone got any opinions and is the Lockright quote a bit too high?

Ah the old lokka's wear out and lockrite's don't
Had my diff apart a couple of weeks ago (installed it in a wide axle housing).......and low and behold the Lokka still doesn't have any signs of wear  still turning 35inch tyres though a supra repower, and still stays locked after 2 years abuse :P
Go for what you can get the cheapest, either brand work identically and lokka brand certainly appear to wear fine on my beastie and quite a few others who run them and frequent this site

You should be able to get a lockrite cheaper than that. I got mine (FJ40) from rock-road.com at $485 incl frieght. It took a couple of weeks. Might cost a bit more now with the exchange rate, but not that much...

I figured $750 would be a bit on the steep side, although you've got to expect to pay a bit more for some one else to bring it into the country and pay the customs/duty etc and do all the mucking around for you

Might shop around prices etc a bit before I decide what to do
