lj78 prado with hilux stub axles.

Post by Hiluxaholic »

Hi there

Got my self a lj78 prado front end and getting it ready for going into my ln131 surf. I was fiddling with it in the weekend and found out that it has already got 30 spline axles from a hilux/ landcruiser that i was stoaked about! 1 less part to get for it :D . Now I know that i need to run ifs hubs to widen the wheel track but my problem is that it REALLY NEEDS new bearings and seals ran through the whole thing before it goes anywhere near the surf. Now do I need to use bearings and seals from a hilux solid front end or prado? or bits of 1 and bits of the other? I can get a complete recon set for a ln106 hilux from bnt for round $100 but I dont want to purchase it if only some parts work.

Any Help would be much appreciated

you can buy a kit for the lj, from bush ranger I think. Its way more than the hilux kit, which sucks cause its only the stuff to do with the knuckle that is different. I believe that all axle seals, bearings etc are the same.

Also with regard to your ifs hubs, why not just use a standard solid axle hub with bolt on 25mm wheel spacers, that way you don't have to do any ifs brake spacing stuff. Just as easy to get certed.

If you are in Waikato area and need that seal kit, Call Richard at Glenview auto motive, he's awesome.

the felt seals are bigger on the Prado, but if yours are still ok, then the hilux kit will be fine. I have fitted a hilux felt seal to the prado axle before, so it can be done in a pinch if needed.

Thanks for the info. regarding the ifs hubs to the spacers, I can get 35mm extra each side with the ifs swap and using spacers its only a 25mm each side. plus stronger using the ifs hubs. Plus 35mm each side matches the rear on a coil rear surf. Unfortunately in in good old canterbury but if all else fails i make a toll call to glenview.
Thanks again

It is an internal seal that needs to be swapped over
