Hey
next year im going to be traveling alot for studying in chch for pretrade mechanic course, And i am looking at a diesel 4wd, cos my sr20det bluebird will become too expensive to run in and out of town everyday.
Anyway i want to get a mistral, and convert to manual. I was thinking that a terrano manual box should slot right in? Would i just need clutch, box and clutch lines and pedal ?
And with the diffs, i hear that all mistrals have rear lsd, What about the front? do any 4wd nissans have lsd front that would fit?
Cheers.

Re: Help with Mistral Gearbox and diffs.
out of curiosity why not get a terrano ?
Re: Help with Mistral Gearbox and diffs.
just wanna make something new, uncommon. I will only do this if it is an easy swap, and it wont be anytime soon, ill keep auto until i can afford this ....
Re: Help with Mistral Gearbox and diffs.
anyone else?
Re: Help with Mistral Gearbox and diffs.
Why don't you just buy a manual Mistral? Cheaper easy etc in the long run.
Nissan Terrano coilovers, turboed VH45, Safari axles, and some other stuff.
Re: Help with Mistral Gearbox and diffs.
99% of Mistrals in NZL are all auto the chance of getting one is very remote.
For some unknown reason in Aussie the Terrano 11 aka Mistral just about all of them have a manual gear box in them you could get one shiped in the last price i had for just buying everything needed to convert my Mistral was $1800 aus dollars plus shipping.
I would forget about fitting a Terrano box in it as the Terrano 11/mistral used a different gear box if i rember correct it was a beefed up ZX300 box.
Not only that the Terrano WD21 5 speed have a bad reputation for blowing regulary ive gone through 4 now so have fitted an auto into mine and so far no worrys at all even when out playing in the mud etc.
Stay with the auto i dought you will be dissapointed with it theres a few things you can do to get better k per liter out of them i could get around 700 per tank full out of mine on trips if you want to know more Pm me and i will let you know what i did.

Re: Help with Mistral Gearbox and diffs.
yeah, there is a full conversion kit on trademe for a vq30e gearbox with everything needed to make mistral manual, the guy says it will fit a mistral. for $900. Also did you say the manual mistrals have really good boxxes? stronger that terrano ones?
The reason i want manual is becuase i find them so much more fun. I will definitly keep auto for awhile until i can afford to make manual.

Re: Help with Mistral Gearbox and diffs.
I dought a V6 gearbox will fit the TD2.7 they have totaly different bell houseing shapes and im thinking that the input shaft distances would be different as well.
Personaly i wouldnt waste my money on his hear say ask if he can show u it mated up to a TD2.7 motor and working.
You say that a manual is more fun i bet you cant go into reverse as quick as an auto espicaly when you have to rock the vehicle to get it out of mud or such.
Ill be staying with the autos i think there way better for 4x4ing.

Yeah i didnt think the v6 box would fit, and i agree that autos are probly better for 4wding, But i still think manuals are more fun.
Re: Help with Mistral Gearbox and diffs.
just a couple of questions
1. Do you think a mistral would be good for 4X4ing?
2. Can u get front LSD diffs for them? i no rear is already lsd
3. Im not wanting an incredibly hard out 4wd truck, just for abit of fun, so what sorta raising would be best?

Re: Help with Mistral Gearbox and diffs.
The Mistral would be no different 4x4ing than a Terrano as they are basicaly the same vehicle.
Yes there is a ZX 300 diff that wih a small mod will fit the front diff.
Are you sure the rear diff is LSD mine wasnt you can check by jacking up the rear with both wheels off the ground turn one wheel if it turns the same way as the wheel u have turned then it is a LSD dif if not its just a standard type diff.
If it isnt you could check out the ratios as compared to a terrnao quite a few of them came out with LSD rear diffs.

how much can u get a zx 300 diff for?
And i looked on a car site, and it said all mistrals are lsd rear diff.. So i guess it is lsd rear..

Re: Help with Mistral Gearbox and diffs.
I guess the cost of the ZX lsd will depend where you get it from i just picked up a Terrano LSD for 4 $100.oo for the complet diff.
I would still jack it up n check it out to be sure.
