buying advice on Bighorn needed

Post by 2 ton Custard Square »

Hi, not sure if this is the right forum but anyway....
I have a SWB 70 series 3b turbo Cruiser for sale and have been interested in getting something more suitable and practical for road trips with the odd bit of 4wdriving.
IT WILL NOT BE A SHINY TRUCK!
I've been offered a swap with a '92 Isuzu bighorn 3.1d turbo with a slight lift, 31" muds and steel rims.
I realise it won't be as good an offroader with longer wheelbase, IFS, weak CV's and from what I can see not much ground clearance under the mid section.
Apart from the obvious weakness of the Isuzu IFS compared to the solid Cruiser axle. Are there any other negatives I should be aware of on these vehicles?
Are their clearance issues with using 33" tyres?

I am prepared to do more mod's as needed, ie: front and rear bar, rock sliders and suspension work like more lift, ball joint flip, etc etc.
Oh and a front locker (when finance allows it) to try save the diff and CV's detonating..

i have owned 3 of them, you WILL struggle to fit 33's without alot of cutting becouse of the rim offset you need to use, i had a set of 31's on mine and it performed well on safari's. good trucks i like them, mine never gave any problems. i also had a 1989 2.8 intercooled wide body swb irmscher which i loved and regreted selling at the time. good trucks if looked after.

isuzu's have good solid diesels although the 3.1's apparently blow a bit of oil out, im not convinced though!!!

i had a 1991 isuzu mu 2.8TD, was a beast 3" bod lift and 33's on it with snorkel etc.

which as said by muskie i also regret selling, as it was my black beauty haha!!! short wheel base too they have plenty of balls same as the bighorns!
If it doesnt work hit it, if it still doesnt work shoot it
