94 Escudo Issue/Problem/Irritation

Post by ZUKPWR »

Hey guys.

I have a 3dr 94 Escudo that turns over but wont fire, I had a mechanic mate check it out and he reckons it's the fuel pump. We took the sparkies out and checked them over and they are dry as a bone so it does look like there's no fuel going to the injector rail.

Is there any way I can check to see if the fuel pump is operating properly?

Is there something in the Vacuum system that could be preventing the flow of fuel to the rail?

Try opening fuel cap then turn key on put ear to fuel tank you should be able to hear pump .Or take fuel line off and turn it over .

It's a G16A Fuel Injected and from what I was looking at earlier today all the hoses are pressure fittings (not easy to undo)

Disconnect the start wire from the starter motor (the little one) and crank the key round to the start position. You should be able to hear the fuel pump running continuously while you hold the key on. You should also be able to hear the fuel going through the fuel line at the pressure regulator, and even feel the pressure in the fuel hose.

Connection for the fuel pump is behind the rear pass side indicator (if my memory serves me right) and is the pink one (I think). Turn on the key, put a multi meter on it and one lead to ground. Should register 12 v, if not check the fuses. if the fuses are okay, then it may be the relays (on the drivers side mounted above the fuse panel). When you switch on the key to ign setting (not turning the starter on though) it should click.

Next point to check if thay are all good is the ECU. I havent got a wiring diagram for the ecu but have a look on the suzuki info sites for one. These need a feed to the ecu, the fuel relay and one other to ...(cant remember) to run.

Go to http://www.suzukiinfo.com/ and look for the 1991 Suzuki Vitara G16B Wiring Diagram: Scanned copy that includes Voltage and Ohm readings. Provided by Heath 300KB

That will help, its the simplest diagram I can find.

Of course if it is a TBI model (you didnt say, I assumed it was MPI - sorry) then this wont be much help at all, but the site will provide you with some stuff I guess.

XD

Cheers for your help guys, much appreciated. I don't have internet where the dead Zuk is so I'll print it out and take it with me when I go to investigate :)

Will let you know the outcome, aside from that, my mechanic mate is pricing up a brand new fuel pump....
