MTR's are great on many surfaces, but mud is not one of them.

Woah there cowboy.. no ropes on me in the weekend :)
Never really put my MTR's to the test in the mud before the weekend, I was plesantly suprised how well they went.

Sorry Suprasurf - I stand corrected and have obviously confused my rubber (a very dangerous dilemma !). What was the rubber you had difficulties with in the Sheffield mud-plug a few years back (thought they were MTR)?

Actually the rubber was good, the busted CV, the dork that towed me backwards into a tree at full noise  and the relay that craped out were the probs...

I do admit that this was my first time in mud on the MTR's and I drove em like my old Simexs, nudge up then a little power will make Simex climb, the MTR's need a bit more right foot :)

I would't go back !!

Hmmm ... seem to have a slightly different recollection of your tyre impression at the time, and Australian 4WD* rated them lowest for mud performance in a 5-way comparison (Centipede, Bogger, Swamper, Claw & Goodyear MTR), but am pleased you have adapted your driving style to compensate; the proof of their ultility in the hands of a master was evident @ the Mak Image.

* Australian 4WD, November 2004: ".... the less aggressive tread suffered in this (tyre comparison) company, both in the mud and on the hill climb ... We found that the tread clogs a little too easily in the mud, and its lack of aggressive side-biters and stepped lugs dropped it down a few points too".

By MTR, are we talking Goodyear :?:

If yes, why the hell would you do a 5 way comparison against Centipede, Bogger, Swamper, Claw

Surely even Australians would know they are more comparable to BFG etc

I tend to recall the problem at the mak that stopped everyone else was a certain greeny coloured vehicle who followed mike and then proceeded to destroy traction for the others 8) (by digging big holes).

Correct me if i am wrong

Because with the exception of mud & hillclimb, they not only held their own, but topped the others on rocks.
