15-16 MAY

Post by skid »

well my weekend started this evening when I went to gas up the 80 for the weekend trips.
Driving down the road I noticed the dash lights looked dim, so a few more looks around the gauges revealed my worst nightmare, one that I had been waiting for since the swimming episode.

You guessed it, the Alternator has crapped out, so turn everything off except the lights I need, get gas, go to supermarket then off to mates house to pull alt out and see whats wrong.

ITS FUKT, burnt out diodes etc etc, beyond repair in a hurry :x

Out with the phone to start calling everyone in Welly to see who's got a spare, don't be stupid, who the hell is gonna have a spare Alt for an 80 the night before you are going on a trip

So we shoot out the Hutt to check out a few options, none of which will work, so sadly the 80 is sitting at my mates going nowhere for a few days.

Not to worry, coz another mate had kindly offered the use of his surf for my wheeling, so we picked that up and chewed the fat for hours whilst checking out all the cool stuff in his shed and have only just got home now.

Tomorrow its round the south coast for a drive/fish/bbq, then up to Rallywoods for the evening and help out track clearing on sunday

Its awesome how the 4wd community reach out to help when they can

See ya all out there

fitted new steering damper to the Whale and moved the "slightly out-round" tyre to the rear, wow what a difference :D

fiddled with teh slave cylinder now have no clutch  all i did was pull the boot back and push the piston back a bit to check for leaks .. clutch pushes to the floor with little or no pressure now but still comes back up, must have sucked in some air when i pushed the piston back .. new slave cylinder time meece thinks

top it all off got a killer of a kidney infection :? so feel like absolute crap

*edit*
Mrs picked up the new slave cyl from BNT for me and fitted it noticed that previous owner may have contaminated the original brake fluid with oil! striped the master cyl and cleaned it out, flushed the line and fitted new slave cyl, gravity bled it and tested ... yay now have a clutch that doesn't engage on the floor boards .. still a little stiff to get into second when cold so i'm picking the sincro's may be on the way out but she'll do for now.

Yeeaaa boi! Haha sounds awesome.

Been trying to fix the locker/compressor in the prado this morning. No luck so far. Have taken the compressor out and it works on a battery so gonna rip all the wiring out now. Thought I might aswell fit an airtank while I'm mucking around so waiting for a few replies on trademe. Also waiting for the neighbour to bring his tractor up so I can lift the old body off the Hilux.

dropped the radiator on the Mistress and tightened up the steering box bolts, two of them were halfway out and the other one was less than finger tight,  wondered why it was wandering all over the place at the last club champs, for some reason the turning circle is way way better now :)

Mud was good, truck looking very brown/clay coloured now instead of yellow. I see a visit to mates truck yard with BIG hose in very near future.

Also the picture above with all the smoke while stuck in the swamp suggests some time in the shed doing some engine work
Toy - Zuk chassis tub, hilux 4.88 axles and transfer, Nissan CA18DE motor and auto trans, sc12 supercharger, 32 10'5 simex, twin motor 8274 custom freespool. Well the parts are all there in various corners of the shed
