Advice on suspension bushes

Post by pjb »

Hey, anyone got any advice on how to remove and refit suspension bushes that are pressed in? With regular garage tool I might add.

Looks like I'd need exactly the right size pipe, then perhaps I could use a bottle jack inside a hilift jack jaws as a makeshift press. Unfortunately don't have the right sized tube (bore is 60 mm). Are there places that do this sort of thing?

Cheers, Paul

Hey mate, north shore, akl. Got a SWB pajero - need to replace the rear trailing arm bushes (where it joins the diff housing).

Rear of mitsi is same setup as front end of coil GQ/cruiser.

Really don't want to put urethane bushes in, but no-one seems to stock rubber ones anymore. $75 each from Mitsi :!: bugger that.

Hi
You will need a press, could take a few ton to move the old ones out.
You will need a pipe just a bit smaller than the bush press it against.

As for bushes try The Mount Shop.
Get one of thier catalouge books. Full of info and sizes.
If they are the same as the Nis GQ/ Cruiser then they have rubber ones.
And a better price than the nolethane.
Do not use nolethane, they dont flex as much and tear out.
P/N 28H005 Dia of press in bush 60mm Width 40mm. Hole for bolt dia 16mm. Lenght of pinch sleeve for bolt 49.5mm.

stuff using a press. Burn them out.

set a burner on your bbq to ON and dangle the end of the arm over it. The rubber will smoke etc and after a short while will turn to dust.

A small portable camp burner is better and will keep any woman you may live with more happy.

I have a cheap (like really cheap) 3/4 drive socket set and it is perfect for this. Not really cost effective for one bush but th emore you play with 4x4's the more you need a bug sockets.

Cheers gents...
Might drop into wairau with the arms tomorrow.
Yeah, spoke to the mount shop the other day. They can't see anything quite right in their catalogue; I'd really need to go in there with the arm and the old bush and they might have something that fits. But then I can't be arsed making the trip to Penrose.

Thinking I might drop some Noltec urethane bushes and see how they go. Supposedly the (blue) Noltec and other blue urethane brands tend to be a softer material than the red Nolathane. Who needs flex when you've got lockers right?
