sj 410 Electronic ignition
sj 410 Electronic ignition
i am in the process of changing the distributor in my SJ form the of point setup to an electronic distributor out of a SJ413. does any one know what coil i should be using? It makes sense to use the 413 coil but is there a "better" coil i could use?
Re: sj 410 Electronic ignition
I'm really not 100% sure but from what I think I remember about coils you can hunt around for something with a higher inductance to put out a hotter spark but thats harder on other things. If you only want easier starting you could do the above and use a ballast resistor (413's should already have one in the ignition circuit from factory??) so its got better spark when cranking than when running. It would probably be a guessing game and you'd have to check the coils you find. I've used a car coil on my dirt bike I use for hunting in the past as the original spark was quite sad and it ended up being really reliable. I would guess if you found a bigger coil off another 12v car you might be able to assume its inductance is higher, as to have more coils of wire contained it would have to be physically bigger. But thats a big assumption.
You could look at an msd coil from the likes of low range but its a bit of coin.
On the other hand, the factory 413 coils work fine so why change something that already works? All three of my g13b engines have good hot spark with the factory coil.
