Landrover leaking computer

Post by ajnacey »

Hey all,

Went out to give my truck (2001 Defender 90 td5) a clean before, and found about 50mils of oily water in the compartment under the seat. After cleaning it up found that it has been leaking out of the computer where the cords from the fuse box plug in.

This would explain why every now and then the trucks electrics play up.

Ive put some photos up in a folder in users pictures page 18. Dont know how to get them onto the thread. Feel free to put them up anybody...

Any help on what to do to sort this out would be much appreciated. I never knew oil was used in computers.....

P.S I anticipate some fantastic Landrover comments coming my way and am the first to agree that they are generally pieces of crap.

It will possibly be the injector harness seal gone and the oil will make its way all the way along from your head to the ECU under the seat. Was a bulletin released about it a few years back. Will see if I still have a copy somewhere and/or find more info out about it...

You'd be surprised where oil can tack along.

Had a Subaru years ago that had a blocked gearbox breather, the oil tracked up the speedo cable and filled up the back of the speedo.

Was real cool driving around town at the same speed as all the other traffic, and speedo read 170kmh  :?
Ugly is a state of mind..... and the state of my truck!

Yeah it looks like that must be the problem.

Any ideas on how difficult or how much $$$ to fix.

Rex is on to it !

Yeap a common problem - happened to my Disco Td5. Mine was only a very small seep tho so I left it. I think the proper fix is a new injector loom from memory  .

Needless to say I don't own it anymore :D

Jeees this place is helpful.

Would have taken Landrover Dunedin a week and a couple of hundy AND the truck would have come back worse than before.

All I can do for now is empty the oil out of the loom where it meets the ECU and do the wiring harness in a few months once Uni is over and Im back in Welly.

Might try garage the truck until then, that will solve the water leaking onto the floor problem

Thanks so much for your help guys its really appreciated
