Also the truck has a push button manual controller for the trans that I designed and built myself so you can have any gear at any time, also with manual control of the lockup clutch. Goes back to fully auto at the flick of a switch.

I'm only interested in this because i already have a surf and this would be the best thing for towing. A few people on here would love to know how to do this. Any chance of a thread on how to do it 8)

Yeah I was originally going to put a few of these together and sell them.. manual lockup clutch control is as simple as a switch as most people know, tiptronic style gear change requires a bit of electronics.

I'll try get around to making a kit.

Most torque converters in automatic transmissions have a seperate mechanical clutch that is engaged at cruising speeds to eliminate the losses (heat) that occur as part of normal operation.

This is normally controlled by the auto trans computer, however it is nice to have manual control over it particularly when doing long hillclimbs and/or towing, as you can engage it at lower speeds than normal to lower your revs and lower the heat, heat being the enemy of an auto trans.
