1993 hilux surf ssrx speedo not working

hey everyone. been watching these forums for a while, and my speedo seems to have stopped working this morning. thought id finally sign up and find out whats going on.

is this a common problem. anything i can do to fix it? or should i take it to a workshop.
money is tight atm to the latter will be my least preferred choice.

am not very mechanical minded when it comes to my surf, so any help please explain in laymans terms. haha.

on a new note. went for a drive about half an hour ago, speedo still not working . but now th over drive O/D light is flashing .

speed sensor on transmission needs replacing, OD light is flashing what will be fault code for speed sensor.
