Strengthening tie-rods

Post by minefield »

I am trieing out a Terrano ,,2 trips 2 bent tie rods ,,
Is there any other tie rod with the same taper but stronger that can be made to fit ? While the Terrano was going , the deeper the mud the better it went
did not like rocky hill climbs though. :?

Minefield what are you doing with your truck :?: I have only bent one tierod in three years and I treat her like shit some days, have broken cv's to prove it. I run a v6 widebody and I know they are bigger then the standard ones and also deisel ones. What year is your truck, petrol or diesel? What size tyres are you running?

I used to have a 86 patrolswb 3.3 turbo but the rust took over,
I decieded to try the Terrano, I have done 5 trips so far the last was the Bleinheim annual hard yakka trip 4 cruisers blew cv's includeing a dd hilux one swb patrol on its side ,Gives you a idear what the trip was like!
I blew a cv and bent 2 tie rods it was a great day, tough just how I like it .
my old patrol no problems,
I am begining to wonder if the Terrano will stand up to the type of 4wding I enjoy I have been doing this for 25 years and I ant going to stop now, having to much fun
:D
I think if I can strenghin the tie rods and tone down my stile of driving I mite be ok. by the way its a 2.7 turbo auto with 32x10.5 moungrel tyres :)

Worse MU. Known to those hiluxy/surfy things too  I do similar trips, now started carrying spares including alternator, cv's and now complete tierods. I was thinking of selling the terrano and going for a patrol but have now decide against it. I love its size, v6 power, onroad handling and I know it inside out  . Sticking with the terrano and doing more mods, the frontend sas is high on the list. Just need the handbrakwe to go back to work.
