Giday, was just wondering if anybody knew anything about these 2 litre petrol surfs? just in terms of the engine and what sort of power.I'm upgrading and trying to steer away from the 2.4 diesel problems.Cheers

Biggest piece of crap I've ever driven. Sucked gas like crazy too. I thought maybe it was just the one I drove but maybe not

Nope, they love fuel. And they are gutless as all hell. The injected ones are slightly better, but not much. The 2lt has a bad rap because people cook them and they shit them selves. As long as they don't get hot, they are fine, and the factory gauge is not the thing to trust for temp.

the 2 ltr petrol are gutless as hell but bulletproof as hell too, you wont break them.
Maybe if you found a tidy solid axle surf with the petrols it might be worth a look, as it will still kick ass offroad and is a good base to do mods from if you choose

hey,
they are a v6 and drink like a fish as well. i wouldn't over look the 3L diesel. They have the 1kz which is an amazing engine. Still basically make it after 17 years although it is now know as the 1kd as it has grown a common rail injection system and an intercooler. I did a highflow muffler upgrade and a 2.5" exhaust from the flexible joint back. and was getting about 420km out of a tank around town and i am not a light footed driver. They ave tonnes of power as well which really helps when you are 4x4ing. The other guys are right about the solid front axle as you can run much bigger tyres. I love my truck and would keep it that way but it really needs some new injectors and a injector pump recon and for what mechanics charge for all that i can put a 1uz V8 in.

Hope this helps

Sam
