Post by Danielle »

Has anyone on this site heard of the omoto mudlark, near greymouth held annually in november?

I have heard that this isn't going to be going ahead this year due to lack of participation. If anyone has heard of this and is thinking about doing it please let me know as I really wnat it to go ahead and I am going to do what I can to try and get them to hold it again.

Please post if you know of this event...

I dont know anything about this meet ,but Their possibly not doing it becuase of all the red tape involved in these things ,ever since that court decision about the organiser of the CHCH to Akaroa bike race where that lady got run over a couple of years ago.

I don't think it is to do with that... they had it last year and quite a few before that.

Um, I just want a petition with people putting their name on it stating if they would be intreasted and maybe enter it this year or just if they think that people should get one last chance at it (the mudlark going ahead with people knowing it is the last one going to be held). Its just that I think this year they would get more people in the mudlark... especially if it is advertised more and earlier too. We have done up a new truck (the patrol) mainly for this event and hearing it isn't going ahead would be really gutting!!!

Could you possibly give me your postal address? Its just that I could hopefully get an online petition but also could send you one by mail for those people and whoever you could get to sign it (mainly ones who are keen to come over for it)... I have got one around Greymouth but as you are from Nelson (I take it your are anyway), thats a different place. I'll be in Nelson next thursday, but only for the day so I can't really do it. Please post back anonymous!

If mike reads this , I would suggest a topic in these forums with a link for the Mudlark from the homepage. Then people can just post their name, location & whatever...... it would be a start at least. Mike, what do ya think...

If not I can do it... would just make sense to have it on the offroad pages..

I can do up a page on the site for you if you like. Doesnt have to be in the forums as such, you might get people posting questions in the middle of the topic  or I can do up a page independant of the site if you would like.

Um, just whatever you would suggest aye, any petition you could do for me on the net would be very helpful!!! Thanks so much!!!

I have typed a petition and got it around my home town (which isn't very big) and I have emailed one to smurf to print off so thats one in nelson. Last year people came from places all over the south island for this event so thats why the internet would help... to get chch people and all over the south island.

Would there be anyone on this site that would come to the west coast for it? Just wondering...

I have emailed the information to you mike, no pictures though unfortunatly.

Are there any people on this site that would be interested in coming to the West coast for this 4WD competition? I think it will be about $40.00 per vehicle and you will need a co-driver too. It will only be going ahead if I can either get 100 vehicles or I can get $5000 from different places in donations. It is a great day though... definatley worth it and then prize giving after at the pub with the main proze being a set of brand new tyres and other spot prizes too.

Hi there, I haven't been on here for ages but was just reminded today about this forum! Anyway... is there interest in the omoto mudlark? If there is could you please place your interest here and I will think about doing another petetion (the last one failed but now as its been a few years and if we got enough interest, I'd say we would have more luck). The mudlark was a great event and it was held by the lions club. I know who to go through and everything so show me some interest and then we could try and get this event back on!

Hi Danielle, A great idea to recreate the Mudlark or some form of 4WD comp; Your earlier expectation of 80-100 vehicles is far to many, go for a max; of 50, its all you will be able to handle. You would need to get the local 4WD club involved or some organisation to help run it perhaps as a fund raiser. Give Dave Taylor at Falsgrave Auto Spares a call 033662374 for information as he has been the organizer for the last 8 yrs of Canterbury 4wd trails. If my memory serves me right the mudlark had 33" max tyre size, this would need to be revisited to have the rules the same as other trial events.

I'm KEEN FOR A PLAY,

FITZY.

Was it the lions club who owned to ground last time was it? I didn't know it had been sold so that makes things a little harder but I think entry fee's were about $40 or something a truck and about $2 per spectator so I guess that could help for ground and for the tractors to pull people out and whatever other expenses there would be.

The main problem is the land... does anyone know who owned it previously?

Um, the Omoto mudlark was a 4wd day on just out of greymouth. It happened annually but the lions club cancelled it because they didn't think it was worth it as they weren't getting enough people but I beleive that was because it wasn't advertized properly. There aren't a lot of things like this on the coast so it would be great to have it back!

Is anyone on here from a westocast 4wd club? I think that if there is anyone, they would be a great help for trying to get this event back on...

Yes. I guessed that would be why for the gravel so hopefully they would be quite understanding and good about using the land for a local event. Um, a main thing is the Lions club though as they know how to run it and set up the tracks and everything and thats who said no to my petition last time (well, they said yes and then when it came closer to the time they then said no!).
