Post by TJared »

Wahoo - I will start this one
my weekend started after i knocked off work... So last night i whacked together a roofrack for my cherokee Quite proud of it actually
Is an australian style one Will eventually have lights up front, have got a rear floodlight to go on, will mount my hilift jack etc

Hope to finish it today and also a cargo barrier
Just gotta go get a few bits of steel for brackets

Seems like good weather to be in the garage

those two go hand in hand, take it back and get it done again till they get it right. and dont settle for less and check all the interior linings and a piller linings when you pick it up cos they have a tendancy to damage them in the process.

Nah its not the screen, been leaking for a few years now, the Lads at Smith and Smith installed glass with sealant on all surfaces, just like the last one (lost a few screens in ten years)

Its comming from the joints just below the screen and intersection of door pillar. I can see a factory joint....If i pour water down there and not anywhere near the screen, it comes thru.

well we got to play in a quarry today .... something a little different 8) The Whangarei 4wd club managed to get access to a working quarry and have a play in the tailing, spent the day cruising around the quarry faces and playing in the swamp and mud from the strippings, great fun and plenty of mud, spills and slipping and sliding down the hills

Image

only way in

Image

waiting at the bottom of the hill, only two ways out....

Image
big lake or .....

Image

hill, but it was steep wet and slippery :) little red Zook that couldnt, after countless attempts to get up the hill ended up having to be towed to the top.

Image
coming down a particularly nasty little track off one of the quarry faces

Mistress went well, the twin handbrake setup we fitted last weekend made a huge difference, managed to drive out of lots of cross axle situations this time and once i get the rhr handbrake to work properly will be even more effective

Went for a drive up the Ashley River Track today..was real good..there was heaps of water & lots of signs of where the river had risen up & was running along or across the track.
River was still dirty & very high.Bits are very over grown so expect some bush rash if you go for a drive there
Only went as far as the end of the track where it finishes & joins the river bed.

Fitted 2" lift springs and shocks to match into my LWB GQ.

Shocks were second hand TJM, springs were EFS.

No major problems other than the nuts on the front shocks were a major pain to get undone.

I also got a bit of a fright, one of the front springs wasn't quite seated properly and I had already lowered the jack most of the way so I grabbed the middle of the spring and gave it a yank...

Needless to say I probably won't do that again, amazing how much pressure there was given that the axle was still being half supported by the jack.

Flying visit to Chch today. In and out without being seen (or having to change any money etc  )

Bit pissed with the builders but maybe its just the frigging council dicking them around. Go Selwyn!!!

Still one day we'll get there...

On a better note now I am back here on my own for a while I thought I would do the front struts tomorrow (yeah the ones I was going to do last weekend -well lets just say that my weekend didnt go well and now I have to get an insurance fix up done).

I could do with the peace and quiet for a bit now.

Put a new 4" lift kit in my 70series and 35" trepadors on but now i have to move my 3" exhaust alittle so tyres dont rub on full lock.
Toyota Landcruiser FJ40, front and rear lockers, 35" simex.
Toyota FJ45 build in progress.
Tires are like boobs, they always look big until you have played with them for a while, then you just want a bigger set.

Myself and some mates decided to go find some snow on Saturday. First went to Arthurs Pass, found bugger all ( but some arrived today apparently.. how typical  ), decided to go for a drive up the Mt Cheeseman Access Road. Was one hell of a day, found the snow :D and am definitely going to be going back soon =)

Only 4 of the 200 plus photos we took lol
