2002 2L Turbo Diesel Landy?

Post by petefj40 »

Can anyone tell me what they think of the 2002 Freelander 2L Turbo Diesel Landy?
My partner is looking at them.

Here's a link to one she's looking at.

"This has the more economical and reliable diesel engine prior to the TD4 being fitted"

Pretty sure thats a rubbish statement. Never had a freelander but my Dad has pretty much every Land Rover International magazine for the past 20 years (and 3 Landrovers) and the TD4 BMW is the motor to go for in these. The XEDI one is an old Rover car motor.

Freelander was a good 'car' but don't get one with a Rover K-series engine. Mechanics have been known to openly sob when one comes in with biege oil and water. Spent an hour heating the sludge in a k-series once to get it to gloop out of the sump plug hole before taking the sump off.
Possibly the longest head bolts in history.
Nice car to drive though :D
