So the tyres that were on it when I bought it are not exactly matched, out of balance, noisy as all hell (more cos they are out of balance and badly worn I think rather than just cos some are M/Ts.
So looking round the fourms it looks like KL71s fit the bill:
* relatively cheap
* good wearing (sounds like only down to about 10mm after 20-30k)
* good (and I realise they are not mudzillas) offroad performance
* quiet on road (for a mud)
* possibly stronger or more resiliant sidewall than some of their competitors in that price range
Anyone disagree with the above?
It's a 1988 diesel LN65 Hilux double cab. To my knowledge, standard height, 4.88 ratio diffs (so could definately go bigger for road driving anyways), with I think an extra leaf added in the rear. What can I squeeze in
31 fits 33 doesn't seems to be the concensus, but what does that mean? 33 inch actual inflated size and I could squeeze in the kl71 33s since they're only ~32.5 inches? Or then theres the 285/75/15 that I calculate to be about 32.8 and if the same sort of size errors applies to all kumhos would only be about 32 inch?
Also, is trademe my best option or does anyone know of any tyre shops in auckland that can do a good price fitted?
How much would it set me back for new leaf springs all round to get a bit of extra height and possibly better flex than my extra leaf standard springs?
KL71s for my 88 Hilux but what size? New leaf springs?
Re: KL71s for my 88 Hilux but what size? New leaf springs?
if you say its got a little more height than standard the 33s will fit, just fit cruizer offset rims with em
Re: KL71s for my 88 Hilux but what size? New leaf springs?
kl71 33x12.5 x15 are in fact 32'' dia, wear well maybe on a light truck, sod all on a safari

Mudstars are o for awesome!! Had a set of 33s on my ln65 and rubbed a little on the back of the guard and steering lock was a little reduced but not too much

Re: KL71s for my 88 Hilux but what size? New leaf springs?
Im running 32" on my KZN130 surf.
I was going to go 33 but as they are an inch wider & might possibly rub on full lock & articulation decided to go 32.The diff in height is only about half an inch in the end so no big difference in height.
So far they have been great both on & off road.

Re: KL71s for my 88 Hilux but what size? New leaf springs?
Cheers guys. I estimate I've probably got about a 1 inch lift having looked briefly at another 65 that was parked up. This would make sense with the extra leaf. So I guess that means if the 33 kl71s are only 32 inch that I'll be sweet.
My current rims are ROH chrome steelies and I just took one off to check the offset and I measure -21mm. Am I right in saying the landcruiser rims are -22mm and therefore my current rims should be sweet?
Also, my current rims sit over chrome hub cover cylinders and so there's a bit of slop between the rim and the hub to allow the rim to fit over the hub cover easily. This is my first 4x4 so I'm not sure what the play between rim and hub is normally like, but just wondering if these are still hub centric. There seems to be a fairly long taper on the stud nuts which makes me think maybe not, and I was wondering if this is a bad thing for offroading. They look quite nice on the beast, so I'd like to keep them, but if i'm going to end up shearing studs, then i'll be switching to white steelies which would then lead to the question of 15" or 16".
I'm probably overthinking things, but as I see it I'm going to be spending >$1k fitted no matter what I get, so I might as well put out a little extra now and do it right.
