Hi there, I've got a swb gq patrol, running 35" mt with staun air bead locks. This means I can't run tubes.
Even with the tyres at about 12psi off road they get dirt & stuff jammed up in the bead and slowly go flat. Then I have to strip the tyre and clean it up etc.
I want to change to silverstone 35 x 11.5 tyres.
If I change to mechanical bead locks with tubes is this going to help fix the problem?
I wouldn't mind it but it ends up being a couple of wheels every trip off road.
Or maybe the question I am asking is to run 35 x 11.5 silverstones on a gq patrol what is the best beadlock/wheel/tube set up.
Thanks, Willy
Bead Locks on 35" mud terrains
Re: Bead Locks on 35" mud terrains
If you get Mechanical bead locks made that are welded properly and seal nicely then you won't even need tubes with them, Some guys even spooge some form of sealent around all the welded sections of the bead lock to help with forming the air tight seal.

Re: Bead Locks on 35" mud terrains
I've got 35s on mechanical beadlocks on my patrol (Howies), did run tubes but when crud DID get into the wheel it rubbed them through pretty quick causing punctures, so I took the tubes out. Sealed just fine, and no more problems with going flat quick, but then I had a few problems with slow leaks due to mud or sticks getting between the bead and wheel at low pressures (about 10 psi). I took to putting a thin layer of silicon rubber on the outer bead when reassembling, haven't had a slow leak since, and it seems to have stopped a lot of the problems I had with dirt getting in there in the first place. No problems stripping them either, it peels right off. So I'm thinking you could try that with your stauns before making major changes...cheers, Terry

mechanical tubeless no more problems for me. from wat I have been told dirt in the bead is the problem with internals. For you I would suggest trying a good quality silicon adhesive that mentions rubber in its use guide, around the bead. worth a crack before spending 1500 on beadlocks

Thanks guys, I'll try staying with the Staun beadlocks then, use silicone & seee how it goes.
