Suzuki SJ413 Transfer Case Locks in Neutral
Hey Guy's,
Yet another question regarding my "new" SJ413. I have had an issue whereby when changing between 2wd and 4wd and vice versa, the transfer case lever locks in place in neutral.
This has happened three times now. The first was in the garage last weekend, the second was out at a mai mai I use on Lake Dunstan and required a hitch hike effort and a 16km bike/walk with tools to fix it and the third time happened on the side of road after driving up from my mai mai.
Each time it is a quick fix involving unscrewing the rubber boot and removing the lever entitrely from the transfer case and moving it back in such that the gears pop back into place.
It is a real pain in the arse and doesnt give much certainty when you want to use 4wd although it has (touchwood) also worked a couple of times without incident.
Has anyone else had this problem? Is the transfer case buggered? I have read that there is sometimes a rubber bush that is pretty crap and lets grit etc in and can be replaced with a better after market one. I didnt notice much of a rubber seal when I pulled the lever out so not sure if this is maybe the issue?
Any thoughts much appreciated!
Cheers
Sean

Sounds like the shift sheet (the rubber bit) needs replacing.
Someone on here had some for sale a while back. Do a search in the suzuki threads.

Failing that get a decent sized washer and put it which is what I did to my 413 7 years later it is still there

I got one from Myron at "Zuks Off Road" in the states, and it was a beautifully machined brass unit that'll last forever. One like that'll cost you around $35 plus shipping though!
He does them for both Sammy and Scud, and both transfer and gear selectors.

ended up ordering one from these guys as I couldnt find anyone else selling them. Was $12 USD for the part and $17 USD for shipping
I'll let you know when it arrives how good it is. Sounds like it should be the bees knees!

Good stuff! Like all repairs and mods, once you've spent the money you never regret getting the high quality bits.
