I just picked up a set of Lightforce Blitz 240 spotlights from another member on here.
I am going to fit them to my 24v Nissan Safari.
What would be the best option for wiring.
1. Use a 24-12v converter and run them from a power source behind the dash.
2. Replace the 12v bulbs with 24v bulbs and run the power from one battery and earth to chassis (which will give me 24v) and run switch to dash
3. Something else which I haven't thought of.
Wiring options for spotlights?
Re: Wiring options for spotlights?
Swap the bulbs out.
Wire via a relay and switch and use the high beam feed to your head lights to switch the relay. (power from batt via fuse, pick up the high beam at the dash and take it via a switch to the relay) Means you need high beam and switch to turn on and they won;t operate on low beam which makes them legal
Easy option is to go to TradeMe, Supercrap or Ripco and buy one of the spotlight wiring looms complete. Just make sure its gota 24v relay

Re: Wiring options for spotlights?
Im planning to wire in some also, but just 12v. Can I have them working ONLY off a switch manually? or must they be wired to high beam?
Re: Wiring options for spotlights?
24 volt lamps aren't as bright, stick with the 12s if you can.
Other alternatives:
Run 1 light of each battery.
Run the 2 lights in series across the 24 volts.

Re: Wiring options for spotlights?
I had a set of Narva's on my old truck and they were plenty bright enough with 24v Osram Truckstar bulbs.
Only hooked mine up to the factory wiring though so there was no real choice between 24v and 12v for me.
Get this though, for a factory effort they managed to have the relay labeled as 'power windows'
Don't know how it got that lost in translation.

Unless they are FOG lights (like most of those yellow ones on imports) they have to turn off when you go to low beam, so yeah they have to go via the high beam somewhere, but dont have to have a switch of their own.

Whats the logic/science behind 24 volts not being as bright as 12v?.
My 24 volt safari has awesome lights

Re: Wiring options for spotlights?
Hi there, I have a toyota hilux and was wanting to put some spotlights on it.
I was just wanting to know if it is legal to have spotlights on the roll bars AND bullbars and if so how many can I have legally?
Also is it legal to wire them up to an independent switch? or do I HAVE to have them wired to high beam?
any help would be much appreciated, thanks.

As far as I am aware, and used to apply to heavy trucks at least I think same goes for all vehicles, you are allowed a maximum of TWO pairs of main beam lights. On trucks with split beam headlights (one high/low, one high, next to each other per side) we used to have to disconnect the spotties to get a COF since we already had 4 high beam lights. Although you can have as many as you like thru another switch not that is not connected to the headlights, I had 2 spots on front and 4 on roof bar on my safari. I think the law says (via the headlight switch) 1 pair dipped beam lights, 2 pair main beam, one pair independant foglights or dayrunners

Yea, you're right there.
You can have as many lights as you like, and facing where-ever you like, but only as long as they have a switch that is completely independent of headlights/parklights. This makes them classed as 'work' lamps, and are then exempt from wof regulations.
But these lights cannot be used on road...
Re: Wiring options for spotlights?
i think best option is to swap ot bulbs for 24 volts ...then will be easier to do.
make sure you install large diameter cables as then youll have less voltage drop & with being 24volt you will draw less current for the same wattage.
