Nup.
Wayne is the man in Chch.
There are only 2 people who do Certs here in Chch. And no way IN HELL would I take it to the other farking plonka. I wasted time and good money using him once and he just doesn't know what the fark he's doing. Very disappointing I can tell you.

Got a quote today to get the LS1 freshened. Should be pulling well over 350KWS at the fly.
New pistons/gapless rings/new cam with plenty of low down torque.
For just over $3000 complete.
Work will start at the end of next month at, "Kevin Geary Performance".
I'll be putting that strengthened track bar to work after that.

Think I might try and sell my 300KWS plate. Time to get a new one.

Just speaking up on behalf of Don Hoff, as he comes up to Nelson to do certs and was bloody good with mine. everything he picked was entirely justified and valid and he was helpful and quick. The only thing that seemed a little dubious at first was unavoidable, he even went through the manuals and legislation with me to see if there was any other interpretation or way around it, but there wasn't.

I will only use him from now on. I'm not in ChCh, but according to my ex-MOT/Police brother, he has had several run-ins with vehicles that have been certified by someone other than Don and they were absolutely dodgy as, including one that was owned by a relative of the supposedly professional certifier. He never had an issue with one done by Don.

(That might be slightly more than my usual 2c worth.)

I won't mention names other than the people I recommend.

I never mentioned, "Don Hoff".

Wayne is the only man that IS the man for the job!!
He's been doing it longer than anyone in Chch. That speaks volumes. Wayne ONLY does Certs. The other fella DOESN'T specialize in doing JUST Certs ONLY.
Wayne is more in touch with what is current law.
I wasted a full Cert lump sum thinking I was going to save $20 bucks on a Cert going through the opposition. He knew FARK all at the end of the day....My car is Certed AND legal.
End of story....

Fair call on the thread-jack Pete, sorry 'bout that.

I was just responding to a comment you'd made and wasn't accusing you of being derogatory to anyone, just wanted to pass on my (very) good result from Don, who has helped many of us here in NSN.

Regarding police and Traffic, your comment is correct, and that's why many of us ended up pulling the pin. You gotta be able to sleep at night and sometimes what you see within the organisation makes that difficult. The majority of front-liners are really good, honest and professional guys and gals though.

No offence intended. (But you can always take it if you wish. )

Threadjacking my own build thread here.
All I can comment on, is my own exprience lneil.
I'm glad you have had a good exprience with him.
Maybe I'm being harsh on him. But when I questioned his calls before going back to Wayne both exprienced tradesmen said I shouldn't have had any problems getting the mods passes for cert. When I finally took my car back to wayne with my tail between my legs he laughed and said the opposition is GREAT for his business!! Wayne took me through the rule book and showed me how it could have been wrongly interprated.
I don't envy their jobs, doing what they do.

But I will say.
One of the two had very good peoples skills and never got hot headed.

Need I say more.

Rant on

And that is what will keep me away from "the other". Went to ask a question of him once at 12.40pm and was told "I'm trying to have farkin lunch, why can't you wankers call during work hours"
I don't stop for lunch, or smoko and had no idea what time it was, but anyone with that sort of attitude can go fark himself!!

Rant off (sorry pete for thread jack  )

Thread jacking is cool rok i guess. i did it.

Hey, i guess if you've got your finger in a few pies and one pie bites you? tell it to "FARK OFF"! Chances of all the pies biting? are pretty slim aye.

But when your finger is in just ONE pie. Farking looking after it! Cause that's the only pie that's putting food on the table.

There some food for thought right there....

I know the certain video you're talking about pete.

Nah. I think what helped more so was the silly stock diff ratio gears behind over 550hp, before i went to 4.11 diff gears. Stock they are 3.36 or something really tall. A mate did a calculation, that if you could hit the rev limiter (6500rpm) in 6th gear, you'd be traveling at 520k's.  Changing the diff ratio was one of biggest changes I've made.
Oh and the picture below is another thing that helped wear it out. Towing a big boat for over 1000 k's up and down hills. Never again.

Sold me older winch.

Upgraded the winch to a Superwinch.
Though it's only a 12v 9000lb. Instead of the normal 4.2hp it's been upgraded to the 4.8hp motor. 8)

Remote in cab switch and a switch close to the winch yet to be fitted.

Bros getting another set of 8 inch rims and sticking these suckers on em.
35" Silverstones.
Anyone used them before??

Image

Here a 35" Silverstone up against a 36" Simex.

He's also getting a twin snorkel system installed along with an air box over the next week or so. That will be interesting.

I had a set of silverstones on my 40 and they were great with the big open lugs and at $400 a tyre you cant get better value for money, the only thing i didnt like was they measure up smaller than a 35" more like a 34". But overall very good.
Toyota Landcruiser FJ40, front and rear lockers, 35" simex.
Toyota FJ45 build in progress.
Tires are like boobs, they always look big until you have played with them for a while, then you just want a bigger set.

I,m running 35x10.5x16 Silverstones on my Navara (when not on my "road tyres"). Good value. Softer compound than Simexs, apparently. Just had them balanced again today. Reasonably new still and seem to be "settling" in on rim, so don't be surprised if they need rebalancing at a later date. And yes they measure closer to a 34, but I recon there great

I'm running 35x10.5x16 Silverstones. They're slightly bigger diameter than the 15in ones - close to a true 35, but still smaller than the 35in Simex (although the Simex has a similar difference - bigger on the 16in rim than the 15), which is smaller than the 36in - although the 36in Simex I think only comes in the wider triple block tread which doesn't dig as well.

Bigger isn't necessarily better though - it depends on your needs. I find the ones I have are as big as I could fit without guard trimming, and seems to match the power & gearing quite nicely (turbo'ed LWB GQ Safari).

Also, the Silverstone has slightly bigger voids in the tread than Simex, which is good for lower powered trucks since they clear easier. The 2F FJ40 I wrote off managed to drive them quite well - they cleared really well the low revving torque without wheelspin.

Overall conclusion - a bloody good tyre, and given the price difference to Simex, a no-brainer unless you're into competition and want to get as close as you can to the 36.5in tyre size limit
