26th/27th June

Post by NJV6 »

Well, since the club trip was postponed I decided to do some gardening....

How does this relate to 4WDing, well I couldn't do it with the Escape (just went brrrrrrr - needs a lower gear!!!) even though it is a company car so had to get out the Paj, a bit of a pull, no go, lengthen the rope slightly, diff locks in, slew sideways until one front wheel hit concrete and out the bush popped!

So yea thats my 4WDing for the weekend!
SWB V6 Paj with one or two mods ;)

Started getting the Mistress prepped and ready for the Mud Drags next weekend at the Rally of Whangarei http://www.rallywhangarei.co.nz/

Every year the Whangarei 4wd club gets to entertain the rally crowd with mud drags and grudge racing

spent today adding in some more under surface protection and knocked up a radiator guard to hopefully catch some of the mud before it hits the fins ... I had trouble with overheating during similar mud baths in the past.

Dropping the Whale off on monday morning for a complete injector/pump rebuild, calibration and "tune" .... should give the whale a little more opmh  as my son wants to drive the mistress against Dads whale  havnt got a sh*t show in catching the Mistress in a Safari but maybe experience over youth might triumph

Put a spring on the bottom of the aerial ... it protects the base from all but a direct hit. My 2c

best battery out there, voted best for many years

spiral sealed lead acid AGM etc etc

http://www.optimabatteries.com/home.php

probably set ya back anywhere from $500 upwards depending on choice

otherwise get the biggest battery you can fit in there, make sure the alternator is cranking some good numbers

Got the coolant flushed and replaced in the V6, then tackled the list of WOF items for the yellow 3-Dr.

For the first time ever a WOF inspector decided it needs a rear bumper and mudflaps! So I just screwed on the plastic outer shell until the WOF's obtained, having checked with the local VTNZ manager and gone through the fine-print in the WOF manual to confirm that it's not actually a requirement.

Changed out both front steering outer links (worn ball-joints), the right front lower control arm ball-joint and replaced both front control arms. The inspector noted that the bushes were stuffed, indicating how the front of the bushes had totally disintegrated. Upon removing them I see that there is no rubber flange on the front bush section!

Replaced the left h/light ((holed by a stone chip) and now there's just a small section to weld in the floor pan near the rear body mount and its all done. After which I will be changing the WOF issuing agency I use.

went to look at this...
http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motor ... 095366.htm

owner seamed to know very little about it, only had it for a couple of months, wouldnt let me drive it, and closed the hood soon after I opened it. When I questioned why the radiator fluid was like milk he told me it must be anti freeze

Dont think Ill be making an offer

Changed all four CV boots, stripped and rebuilt my aisin hubs (evidence of moisture), put a couple of coats of paint on my winch bar after its mods to fit my new winch, extended the rubber skirts in the wheel arches to try and reduce the mud-fest in the engine bay.

Next, fit the bar and winch, take it for a WOF /cringe
