Undiagnosed clicking noise?????

Post by daymo »

Have a 91 3door escudo, with the cheap vitara lift which has started making a clicking noise from what i assume to be the front left and I can't pin point the problem.

Hard to explain, but its not the cvs, I replaced the whole half shaft the other day anyway cos the boots were split and also cos it does it in 2wd and 4wd, but isnt constant, comes and goes. Usually at its worst after moving off from coming to a stop.

Speed of clicking is proportionate to speed, Have stripped and repacked the bearings, nothing is rubbing/catching on the wheel/brakes anywhere, and I am just stumped!

Hoping someone else may have some ideas as to what it may be.

Stupid question I know but seeing youve been workin on the front I assume youre front wqheel nuts are tight. Have you checked the rear wheel nuts lately?
Sounds strange but Ive found loose wheel nuts before when other mechanics had diagnosed the rear diff, cvs, wheel bearings, among other things

mine was doing something similar, it was not an ongoing clicking tho just a one-off click whenever i started or stoped / slowed down or accelerated or hit decent bump etc... sounded like it was coming from front left but turned out to be trailing arm bushes on rear diff.

Got superwinch manual hubs and the all the wheels have been on and off several times. jacked the whole vehicle up on stands and had all the wheels running, and nothing, then bugger me drop it down and go to leave the drive and there it is clicking away again!! (and no there aren't stones stuck in the tread)

 Ok ive heard this before on many suzuki vitaras and escudos, ( i work for hollands in chch ) check the strut tower mounts between the body and the strut mount assembly youll probly find stones jammed in there, the easiest way to get them out is with a long thin screw driver, jack the vehicle up or put it on a hoist so that all the weight is off the strut assemblys, you wont be able to see the stones but start digging around and theyll fall out, you may need to use a crow bar to pry the strut tower out from the inner guard, try it youll see
