Well, here we are at the other end of one hell of an event! It happened, and it happened HARD! No doubt there are a few repairs being done as we speak in true testament to the reputation of the Rotorua Winch Challenge ..... to both trucks AND crews! From broken axles, CVs, hubs, PTO drives, steering components, fire damage, panel damage and even the odd broken navi

There has been huge support to make this event the success that it was, and its only appropriate that thanks is given to all of those involved, so I guess that’s my “Q” to thank the following:

Saturdays and Sundays racing – Phoenix Road, Mamaku – Ngaro Tumai – Hancock Forest Management (NZ) Ltd
As always, there is a number of people behind the scenes that make things happen, that work away quietly and collectively to get the job done, and the RWC2010 had its fair share of “doers” .....
A huge thanks goes out to Ma Baddeley for the sanity saving coffee cart that found its way out to both race sites over the weekend providing the much needed and craved caffeine injections as well as some HOT food to warm the frozen masses! Ma Baddeley also provided the iconic RWC2010 mugs that were presented to the competitors and marshals who made it to the prize giving

While on the subject of food, thanks also goes to all the sausage lovers out there (haha, that sounded funny in my head) that supported the BayTrust Rescue Helicopter by devouring the Mad Butcher sponsored pre-cooks in the Quality Bakers sponsored toast loaf that was prepared on the Mainfreight sponsored trailer BBQ! Due to the remote locations that we Nissan owners can get to ..... and some of you Toyota fellas too ..... it only makes sense that the fundraiser was held in support of the BayTrust Rescue Helicopter as they are the asset that will respond to our aid in the event that the worse case scenario should occur when in the jungle.
Thank you to Charlie Mutlow for arranging the portaloos as well as the much appreciated heater and generator used on Saturday night, AND for supplying his own water pump used to save many engines on Saturday and Sunday! Thanks brother, cher bro.
Thank you to the sausage handlers (haha, again that sounded funny in my head) who manned the BBQ and kept them flowing, with JR (John Reid) and his merry helpers on Friday night and Tracy Taylor from Norwest OHV and Leanne Thompson on Saturday night!
A big thank you also goes to Kathy Folley from Memories Of New Zealand for providing the trophies for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners from each Class. This year it was decided to present trophies that depicted the cultural heritage of Rotorua which looked amazing.
Thank you to Gary Lodge for taking on the role of Clerk Of The Course, and making the calls when the going got tough to pull stages and let the lads and lasses repair to fight another day. Garys theory was to have as many trucks alive on the start line the following morning and preserve the event, which was a wise and educated decision! Thanks Gary for your support of EVERY Rotorua Winch Challenge there has been!
Thank you to Kevin Folley who jumped in the deep end and took on the role of Event Director so I could tutu with switches in the 40 over the weekend, and for taking on the task of scoring, as well as Head Marshal! That man deserves a pre-cooked sausage for sure! Thanks for doing what needed to be done and keeping the pulse of the event strong.
Thank you to Sam Baddeley who was able to attend the weekend and act as liaison and guide to assist Gary and Kevin in their roles, and for finally putting a pair of pants on

Your support was greatly appreciated.
Thank you to Darin Neeley and his team from 4X4 Challenges for conducting and controlling the scrutineering phase on behalf of the event. The opportunity to educate on the logbook procedure and auditing processes only made sense and was well accepted by all. Your advice and support over the past months has been greatly appreciated and I would recommend you to any and all who are considering giving event organising a go. It certainly made a few things easier for me for sure.
Competitors were approached to vote on who they thought was the most outstanding marshal of the weekend, and one name seemed to be repeated ..... so Maurice Bill was acknowledged for being marshal of the event and was awarded with a weekends accommodation at the Kingsgate Hotel Rotorua. His annoying “are we happy yet” attitude and ability to make you smile watching him dance on stage to the tones of AC/DC emitting from the 40 was priceless. Thanks fella

I think I’m missing a group to thank .....? Well it’s simple really, and without them, there would’ve been a very different outcome with “self scrutineered” stages (which would have seen Ben and I in first place, haha) or in reality no event ..... so without further delay, a HUGE THANK YOU to ALL the marshals who volunteered to brave the cold mornings and nights, who gave up their time to help the event go ahead, who travelled from afar to support the RWC2010, and simply combined their efforts and made it all happen. You guys are truly legends and your awesome contribution is beyond words. Thank you. Representatives were present from Mount Egmont 4WD Club, Counties 4 Wheelers, Norwest OHV Club, Bay Of Plenty Four Wheel Drive Club and Geyserland 4WD Club. There were others present from various other Clubs and a huge thank you goes to them for their support and assistance! Thanks guys and girls for your amazing efforts.
Thank you to the hosting Geyserland 4WD Club and those who got stuck in and helped with track setting and the arduous task of track clearing. On a special note with the helpers from the Geyserland 4WD Club there was one person who made it to every single trip into the Mamakus to help, whether he was recovering from an ear operation or grounded by his mum, he was more than happy to drive me around while my wagon was on ..... erm ..... axle stands ..... so a special thank you goes to Hamish Fenton aka Hamster for getting involved and doing as I told him!
Thank you to Craig Owen for sourcing the Horohoro site and taking that site on as his project ..... which seemed to be more challenging than anyone had anticipated

Thank you to Aaron Smythe and Doug Cooper for taking on NS12, NS13, SS6, SS7, SS8 and SS17 as their project and setting some awesome stages!
I’m hoping there aren’t any I have missed, and if I have I apologise sincerely. There were so many who contributed in making the event the success it was, and I thank you all!
I guess now I get to thank a fella who for some strange and unusual reason doesn’t seem to mind having me around, yelling in his ear ..... even when he is sitting beside me, who doesn’t mind when I have a tree fall on the roof ..... or when I try to put the truck into what he would call a “lake” ..... who doesn’t mind my questionable requests, or uncomfortable conversations that occur in the cab ..... and accepts me for the athlete that I am ..... and that's Ben. Thank you bro for the insane ride! This was our third event together and fifth time we have caught up since we first met at last years RWC09, and it has been an absolute blast! With a little more tweaking our telepathetic will be a force to be reckoned with

There was another fella who showed some real enthusiasm over the weekend, who was willing to help at a moments notice, whether it be to straighten the steering on the race truck, get Wild Bean coffee or Cam some pancakes from McDonalds ..... and that's Dan ..... the newest member of DARK HORSE Racing. Thanks Dan for ..... um ..... what ever it was that you did ..... over the weekend

Last but not least, thank you to my partner Miranda for tolerating the late nights I would spend emailing, the constant phone calls and txt all day and night, the time and effort I put in to make this event happen, and for accepting all this even during a period that she was admitted into hospital for a month with our new baby boy Kane. Thank you for being supportive even when you wanted to hit me over the head time and time again, and for not getting angry when I caught the truck on fire last week. Thanks babe

In ending, (yes, there is an end finally), thanks to everyone who supported, assisted, and attended the event ..... it wouldn’t have happened without you.
