350 TBI Chevy into my Hilux

Post by Weemsy »

im going to put a 350 fuel injected chevy from a 1988 Suburban into my 1984 Hilux this weekend :D

putting the motor in seems straight forward enough as theres a 283 in there at the minute.

what i would like is some wiring diagrams......

i have the loom and ecu, but its the wiring from the fuse box plug, and all the emissions stuff like egr etc.

can i bin the egr & lambda sensors, or will it run shit and in limp mode or something??

any advise will be greatly appreciated :P :P

cheers

You probably should have sorted that bit out before getting to the "it's going in" point.

Google is your friend, go mental looking for wiring diagrams. :P

yeah, googled & got several wiring diagrams :D

was hoping to get some concrete info off the local crowd, as there are lots of different diagrams for the same motor in the states  if it comes to it i can figure it out, would like the swap to go as easy as possible though as i have to supply beer to the lads at work over the weekend - could be costly

hey saddam, yeah thats the one. got it off tom.

Check the casting number on the back of the block coz it should already be a 350 not a 283, my mate owned it for about 5-6 years and its a good motor in that truck

the casting number is at the back of the block behind the head on the bellhousing flange, its usually a 6 or 7 digit number ie 3970010, you can cross reference the casting number to find out what size the engine is here

It was always a good motor in that truck so I wouldnt go changing it unless you really wanted to

the reason im changing it is all the scare stories about carbys and hills :o

the motor runs sweet as, but im hearing of cutting out on hills and flooding on sidlings etc etc..........

i just thought banging in a fuel injection motor will cure all those ills in one hit :? , but whats the general opinion????

dont change

carbs are fine

had a 600 holley on my ol 350 in the 40

did trials stuff, teams recovery stuff

had it on angles including vertical up and down and upside down a couple of times

ran sweet every time, never died etc etc

fukn far too much effort in changing a motor when ya don't really have to

Dont pull that motor out Weemsy you dont need to and you'll probably find its a whole lot of work and money for nothing

but if you do end up pulling it out I'm coming up to get it

The trucks had a good history since that motor was put it, 1x nana owner whos only used it once a month for the past 5-6 years to get up to his bach in the bush, its never been snotted or thrashed or cooked or anything

Yep  I even forgot to turn the power and the whole system was still on underwater for atleast 5 minutes  Used some crc and air and she was going again mint an hour later (after the motor which was filled to the top of the rocker cover with water) and went hard for the rest of the afternoon and many preceeding weekends until I broke the gearbox
