Now here's a small mod I'm going to do MYSELF!!

After getting the covered plasma rope on the winch last week. Even though it's a shorter length than the steel wire. I can't get all of it on the drum because the bull bar gets in the way.

Image

So it's off with the bull bar and out with the plasma cutter.

Took me around 3 hours to do the job. (the smallest on any ORE build thread)
Getting the bull bar off wouldn't be so fiddly if I didn't have to remove the engine oil cooler. It's tucked up in the front of the bull bar.

Saved myself about $180 in labour I recon.
There's a good feeling doing something by yourself. :D

I did more work with the angle grinder with a cutting blade on it than the plasma cutter. But yeah. The plasma cutter is a wicked weapon.

Its good shit that overbraid rope but its bad for cutting down through the layers on the drum under heavy load and its a bitch to get it un-jammed and spooled out again..... you'll see

You're not wrong Sadam.

I used it already on the Worsley climb the other week.
Found it best that the first 5-6m wrapped on the bull bar was the best option rather than it on the drum.

That's a good deal kaney! Well done.

If they did have my ones in their brochure I doubt they would have any in the country. We tried to get them from a number of dealers but they all said the same. They are waiting for the new stock to arrive, "there are none in the country yet".
So I'm trying to put them on a 5 day courier from the states.

I don't deal with Tony's anymore. But which branch were you dealing with?

shouldn't plasma rope be spooled on haphazardly and over-lapping so that it doesn't cut down through the layers :?:

Not sure if that applies if the plasma is wrapped like mine.

Only the first couple of layers and it never goes on that way by itself any way

I only like to use that rubber/beadlock rims on dirt Bolo. To bloody dangerous on the road. It's good to be back on the road rubber. Though bigger wheels would be better. The 35's look tinny. And the rate I'm wearing the KM2's I'll be getting new rubber next year. Thought they might have lasted a bit longer than they have.

Against me Beadlocker rims, anything looks gay. But I like em and I didn't buy them to please others. Sorry, just my honest opinion. :)

eeeeeeeeeeh nup :? :?

There are two simple tricks to stop that happening.

You spool the rope onto the drum under load, i.e unspool all the rope, attach rope to tree, put hand brake on vehicle, drag vehicle along on the winch against hand brake. If you get the rope nice and tight it can't spread to allow the upper layers to cut down.

If you have to much rope out while winching and have to spool it back onto the drum loosly, you criss cross it along the drum from side to side, that way again it can't cut down between layers.

If it does cut down and jam, you just wrap the rope round the tow hook once and power the winch in the required direction and it pop's out. Let the winch do the hard work 8) 8)

Damn.
Other people are saying the same as you skid, fark it. And it's putting me off em (the rims i mean). They do look better in the mag than on my truck.
I think the same rim in brushed alloy would look better.

The way I look at it I have 3 options.

1. Sell em, get my money back and order another set.
2. Get the ones i got sand blasted and the alloy brushed.
3. See if I can get the set made into bead locked rims after sandblasting.

Could get a "pretend bead lock plate made and bolt it to the alloy (on the chunky bits). Could even be alloy and tig it in place.

Good idea Heath.
One bloke down here said you could spin them up and make them into beadlock rims.
But I've got a set of those.
I've ordered another set but different style for around the same price. I'll advertise the first set on Trademe this weekend.
They should go pretty fast as they'll selling cheaper than the mag and turbo people sell em for and they haven't been released here yet.

I took the wheels off and went back to the beadlockers today.

:D I thought the beadlockers looked great last weekend, wasn't a big fan of the new alloys at all, too modern looking. Just my opinion though, I like the old school look.

I tend to agree with you. i don't know what I was thinking.
Marrying the old with the new might work with the power plant. But doesn't work with the wheels.
Lets see if the other rims work.
