Running a front auto locker with toyota ADD.

Post by koma »

Im getting mixed messages about doing this, I dont have free wheeling hubs but am looking a installing a lockrite on the front of the surf. But I've been told this causes the vehicle to pull to the right on the open road, have tried searching/googling abut never seem to get a decent answer so thought I'd ask. Cheers

Fit a FWH to the drivers side. Easy to get out and engage without having to walk around the vehicle, eliminates the issue of pulling to the right.

Or fit front diff from earlier Surf without ADD and fit FWH to both sides. Eliminates the electric ADD gear.

Its a 185 series surf, heard there can be a few issues installing FWH's to these vehicles? Cheers

Put a rear locker in first. Will allow you to get pushed through the rough stuff slowly, saving the front end

UBZ, I've got an ARB to go in the rear. Main reason im looking at putting a front one is is because I've just taken the front diff out to do the seals as it was leaking, and thought why not do it while its out.

Smurf, haven't looked deeply into it yet but from my quick look at it before im guessing It'd need abit of modifying as there isn't even anywhere to bolt a FWH to.

The front diff should be a an airlocker ad the rear can be anything. There are times when you just do not want the front locked. The rear diff doesn't really matter.
