The RD23 is weak in the cross shaft holding the spider gear.
I have broken 3 cross shafts and have now up graded to the RD 32 which is a much better unit.
Cheers Richard

What type of air locker is it?
Nissan Terrano coilovers, turboed VH45, Safari axles, and some other stuff.

The chinese type.
They are the ones that are a copy of the ARB lockers using the same parts numbers etc.
Have "heard" that the occasional locker isn't machined true on the crown wheel flange making the pre-load and backlash hard to set up correctly.
Danger Mouse racing use two of them in their Lexus power Hilux winch challenge truck, they have no more issues with them than those with ARB's do.
The ARB's are a very refined piece of equipment when compared side by side with the Chinese copy.

My ones are genuine ARBs
I only buy what I consider to be the best. The price doesn't come into it.
Cheers Richard

Hi there,
I have a Chinese locker in the rear of my Terrano. Worked fine for a while, then wouldn't hold air pressure sometimes. Once locked it stayed locked, but when un-locked it would be random if it locked again that day, untill a decent run at 100km.
Pulled it out and found the O rings on the piston were not sized correctly. $4 in bits and all is good. While I was in there, I also found the thrust/bearing washers behind the spider gears were worn and 1 had completely distroyed itself. Got in touch with the supplier and got some spares. Spent half a day setting backlash in spider gears, all good now!
Also just finished doing one for a mate to put in his MU. What a drama! First off, ring gear wouldn't fit, so spun it in lathe and machined it down to suit. Next was the shimming.......6 hrs later, I was finally happy.
So in short, they ok, shyt machining, and no quality control.
They are more robust locked than unlocked. I turn it on when engaging 4wd and turn off when disengaging 4wd.
Works for me.
Cheers Simon.
