86 ln61 2.4td series1 with w56 gearbox engine change

Just wondering if i would be able to swap a later model (89+) 2lt into my ln61 ? without too many complications and is there anything i need to know before diving headfirst into an engine change ?(only changed a petrol car engine b4)

There are a few differences between the older and newer engines, I know of two people to fit the newer 2.4's because that is what they had but there were a lot of little things they both had to change.

They both made the swap happen tho.

would i have to use the gearbox for the later series ? and computer ? best to purchase a wrecked ln130 ? hoping to only need the engine =( i managed to swap the 4x4 for my old honda crx ... i thought i had done quite well but now theres oil all over the right side of the engine bay and its pumping black and white smoke out the rear and im guessing the heads more than likley cracked and given the look of the oil and state of coolant e.t.c so was just going to replace the whole lot but seems it might be going to be a costly exercise but any way short of a 4 door ute i would prefer this model of surf due to the ability to remove the roof.
