Wanted - Drop Boxes for 80 Series
Anyone got any drop boxes available or know where I can get some for an 80 series? I'm after some for a 5 inch lift

I looked for a set a while ago, but was told not to use them as they are rather large.

I do a lot of KMs on the road every week so I was thinking drop boxes and a set of castor correction bushes would be the way to go to keep it driving nice. They do stick out but I'm not so concerned about it.

Do not worry about their size or anything like that. It'll absolutely not be a problem for you (don't think it'd be a problem for anyone but each to their own)
Contact 4wdbits.co.nz as they make some very very nice drop boxes. I had some for my GQ and pretty sure they do 80 series too.

You've run them on a VX then? Be interested to hear feedback because I'm told they are a lot different to running them on GQ's
Re: Wanted - Drop Boxes for 80 Series
I've run a set on my VX for the last 6 years and they are great. I've got a 5 inch EFS lift and no other castor correction stuff and it handles fine. Not quite the WOF guys words. ha.
The drop box drops the rear of the radius arm by about 3 inches. And as already stated, no drama with getting hung up on them. Maybe I should get someone to fab some up?

Re: Wanted - Drop Boxes for 80 Series
ive just taken one off the back of my 80 ,think the front one might still be on it.it might even be kickin round the garage floor somewhere .if i get some time over the weekend i'll have a look for it

FJ40,INJECTED SB 406 CHEV, LOCKER,35 SIMEXS,warn winch , 80seies vx 4.2 24v turbo diesel ,fr and rear lockers 3" exh top mount intercooler, 021 724482
Re: Wanted - Drop Boxes for 80 Series
I'm still running castor bushes which don't give enough correction, and 5" plates give too much. Was thinking of drop boxes but theres different opinions on them, but it's the extra cost of new bushes for the arms as well as having to get the boxes thats making me consider drop arms instead

No different to running on a GQ. Idea is the same, general location is the same..
The drop box is so close to the rear of the tire that you'd have to be dropping over like a 90 degree concrete ledge for the drop boxes to hit (and even then they'd probably save more important things from taking the hit)

Re: Wanted - Drop Boxes for 80 Series
The main difference is the arm already mounts below the chassis on a VX, and drop boxes on a GQ drop the arm to around the level of a standard VX, so I guess thats why some VX owners don't like them?
Re: Wanted - Drop Boxes for 80 Series
found the back one ,now got to find the front one

Re: Wanted - Drop Boxes for 80 Series
I'm still confused.
Why do you have a front one and a back one sig? Unless you drive your truck sideways a lot???

Re: Wanted - Drop Boxes for 80 Series
I have a set that I've had to modify to fit my manual gearbox...
Haven't put them on yet but in terms of the getting caught on stuff problem, you really have to look at the kind of driving you do and if you see yourself constant putting stuff close to where the boxes would be then steer away.
The yanks are big on castor plates, I prefer to drop the arms back down to where they would sit factory.
Consider a wheel barrow, pick it up and keep it as flat as possible and go over a bump. Now pick it up and hold the handles up near your chest and try and go over the same bump...

I'm keen on the Panhard rod drop boxes.
I actually need both (panhard rod and Radius Arm) drop boxes. I have correction bushes for the radius arms but that won't be enough with a 5 inch lift, drop boxes will make it closer to factory. Might have to get some made up.
