Lynx's 1991 Toyota Surf

Post by Lynx »

Hey guys,

This is my first 4x4, havnt done much to it.

When I first got itImage

Ive since removed the running boards, flares, rear swaybar.
I have done and onboard air conversion, using my a/c pump, works well, got a small tank to put in aswell.

I have added a set of 33x13.5x16lt Maxxis Mudzillaz, and am very impressed with them. They stick out a fair bit, so next on the list is a rubber flare kit. And a little guard mod.
Image

Also on the lookout for a snorkel and longer front shocks, rear shocks and springs.

Just a few pictures...

There is no point putting in longer front shocks unless you do a ball joint spacer aswell as travel is limited by the bump stops. Quite a lot of extra flex can be gained with longer shocks on the rear, the Surf 4 link rear has a lot of flex for something with such short links. Used Landcruier 80 series springs work well in the rear if you want some lift. You may also need to extend your rear brake line.

LOL at the stock spare hanging under the ass end.. I ditched that look and now keep the spare in the back of the truck.

Haha that spare is one of my road tyres 31x10.5x15lt, just slamded it under there when i went out, will make a storage system in the back. For recovery gear, tools, and the spare.

Re: i was aware about the ball joint spacers, just wanted somthing to start off. Where can i get some ball joint spacers?? or are they easy to make.

Hey Guys

Compiled a list of things to do on the truck, got all my steel cut and ready to weld up for my rear bumper. Started making a catch can. Installed my boost gauge. Pics to come.

Hey Guys,

Went up Odlins Road Today, annnnnnnnnnnnnd

Took a bit to get out, but we got there. Really impressed with how the truck went.

Boost gauge install was very simple. just run the wires, mount the gauge and tap into the line from the turbo to the wastegate.

Hey man, went up with Graham and rob, did heaps of side tracks, smashed rim and droped a tyre, fixed that, then it got dark so we headed out. Was up there for about 8 hours, was so awsome.

Right, its been a while since ive updated this, primarily because i havent done anything

But recently ive been plodding away at bits and pieces.

Image

Mounts mocked up and still to be finished. Going to be running some Prado radius rods (lj78 if i recall correctly), and quite possibly coil overs as well.

So, at the moment im after, 2 axles and cvs, prado radius rods, and some more steering arms.

Some more pics

Update, binned the radius rod idea, going with a 3 link instead.

Image

Build to take nissan patrol radius arm bushes. In the next few days, ill hopefully modify the diff brackets, start building the chassis brackets, and rebuild the panhard rod. Going to run airshocks up front. Wont be street legal this time...
