Got a club trip to Kopara this weekend. We usually spend a day on a farm with cool hard tracks but it has been sold and we no longer have access. After any info on any tracks worth a looksee. I was thinking of heading up past Hapuri towards the mountains to see how far I could get up the Aharua river. Anything considered, GPs co-ordinates would be helpful.

Re: Tracks around Kopara
Hi Al
If you carry on up the Ahaura river you will come to the Waikiti farm.
If you can get permission you can carry on for miles. You reach a junction of the Waihehe and Tutaekuri rivers which form the Ahaura. Going to the left puts you on a DOC track to the hut up the Waihehe.
Going to the Right leads up the Tutaekuri river and eventually puts you to a junction with Trent river. Going to the right into the Trent the track carries on for a least another 7 k and you reach a gorge that I understand you can drive through even though I haven't done it.
Option 2 is to cross the Ahaura and get into the Nancy but you need permission from the farmer. Lots of Bog in there leading to the Nancy clearing.
Have a good weekend
Cheers Richard

Hi Al
I don't know the phone No but the farm is "Waikiki Downs" I think.
Bill Perry used to own it but I'm sure it has now changed hands. Max Barns used to service his Landrover so he may know.
Even Geoff Gregory may know.

Thanks Richard. Got a mate who has a database with all the names of landowners in NZ and their contact details. I'll see what he can come up with. Other then that, I might make a trip to the farm on friday night with a few bevies and see what comes of it.

Hi Al
Try ringing Mike Dredge. He invited me on a trip into the Trent a few months back. He will be able to give you the latest.
