Toyota diesel for sj413
Lets just say if i wanted to spin some 35in tires on my SJ413 what would you reconmend? i would like to stay diesel.
is there a good motor that could bolt up to the Zuk transfer or would i need a complete setup?
i like the look of putting a 2lt-t and hilux transfer and gearbox in because this can be done cheap but i think it would be quite heavy?
Would a 1600 vitara hold up to 35s and spin them good.
Oh and ive got lux diffs and i think they have got 4.88s in them but not sure so dont worry about that
What do you guys think?

to heavy and still wouldnt spin em, rpm = tyre clearing and 4cyl diesels just dont cut it.
swb lux with 7mge, trailgear crossover, trailgear rear lift kit, custom front bar, runva 1200lb winch, custom snorkel, 37" Mtrs, custom deck, lockright in the rear.
Re: Toyota diesel for sj413
and a 1600 suzuki most likely wouldnt do the job either. I have 32.5" or so tyres and the only time I can get near the redline is in clay, sand it just bogs down and normal mud it just stays around 5000rpm.
4age should work, or if you could find a way of fitting a supercharger to the Suzuki motor? Probably not worth it, but its a thought.

Re: Toyota diesel for sj413
I would say a 1kzt-e would spin the 35s, my 1kz can fry my tyres on the seal, one guy is running 40inch tyres with a 1kz replacing the 2jz, my 1kz can get a move on better than the my old supra 2jz with the big tyres
Re: Toyota diesel for sj413
In a Sj , a 1600 , 4.88 diffs, and transfer case Reduction geArs will spin 35's swt as. It's about gearing.
Heap of guys in aust running similar setups

Thats what i was thinking ive got a 1600 nissan diesel in it at the moment so ill see how that cuts it.
The problem with getting transfercase reduction gears is for the cost to get a set in from the US is close to the price of a new motor.

Re: Toyota diesel for sj413
get a front wheel drive diesle, fit it north south with the diff welded up and have a drive shaft made to go to the transfer case. Extra low gears.

Here's some weird logic for you.......
As you have found out, changing one thing on a vehicle leads to a whole string of follow on modifications.
For what ever reason you decided to go for the Hilux axles.
Now you find that you get stuck in the ruts way sooner than when you had the zook axles.
So you cut all the gaurds and reweld them, fit a body lift, fit lifted springs, longer shocks, extend the bump stops, modify the fire wall, all to squeeze bigger tyres under it to regain the clearence you lost by putting the Hilux axles under it.
Now the poor little 1600 won't drive the tyres properly.
So you fit a bigger engine again.
The bigger engine keeps ripping the transfercase out.
You ditch the divorced transfercase and fit a different set up.
Now the next weak link is the axles.
Again.
So were did it get you??
You have a rig that weighs the same as a Hilux with out the benefit of the hilux wheel base.
Should have bought a Hilux then eh

Why?, everybody and his dog has done a Slowlux.
At least the guy enjoys his Suzuki and trying different options with it, so what if he makes mistakes, we all modify our vehicles to suit our own tastes not what other people think we should drive, its called Diversity (being different).

Re: Toyota diesel for sj413
And it looks cool

But basicly i had the SJ413 that i got cheap, rolled it, saw the axles cheap and thought it was a good idea to fix tippynes among other things.
So why need a lux? All in all its just fun playing and learning with a truck like a 413.

Re: Toyota diesel for sj413
Lux diffs will give you width yes but you lose a lot of clearance as a result. My zook has the same diff clearance with 31's as my patrol has with 35's. I would have thought wide track zuk diffs with decent offset wheels would have been better but you never know. I like the idea of keeping with the super light zuk stuff and staying away from other heavy parts.
And as UBZ said spinning the 35's will be all about gearing unless you have good power to start with.
If you go the lengths of mods you mention in the first post I think it will be capable but it'll pretty much be a shortened lux with a zuk cab on it.
Will be cool to see how it goes if you are going ahead with the build but may be lots of work which could be ongoing.
