miss in td42

my nissan td42 has a miss over 3000rmp can any one help

Hi Al,

Have you talked to Roger? His used to miss and fart about. Something to do with air getting into the system I think.
SWB V6 Paj with one or two mods ;)

Remove the thimble filter under the banjo bolt in the top of the fuel pump and give it a blast with an air-duster (or just chuck it away).

interesting, to dig up an old thread, mine does this too, at almost exactly 3krpm, misses n smokes like a train..but seems to run fine below that. Changed the diesel filter no difference, but i forgot about the one in the banjo bolt will have to have a look. is it a bugger to bleed after removing this bolt?

No,its not on the pressure side.it is quite small though,easy to miss it.

So this would be the bolt where all the fuel hoses connect to the injector pump? (On mine there is a sensor or the fuel cut solenoid instead of a bolt). No filter gauze in there. Am I looking at the right place or are we talking the banjo bolts on the filter head?

mine used to do this in 2nd gear, felt like it had a rev limiter on it. I pulled the gauze out of the fuel filter and gave it a real good clean, no problems now.

No, thats the outlet/return to tank from the pump. The gauze is under the banjo fitting at the front of the pump closest to the timing cover should be only one line to that fitting.

after looking for the guaze found that there was not one in there ,and know found way it should be one ,after finding out that number 1 and 2 injecter are blocked dew to not having it there.

Ahhhhhhh. Always thought it was strange that the inlet and return were on the same banjo, as there is a larger line on that 1 too. But spotted the other fitting now. Thanks for that, will investigate when its daylite, and not rainin haha

FYI, the gauze is under that spring. The spring is a retainer to hold the gauze in position. Finding a spring is a sure sign the gauze is there. If it wasn't the spring would now be chewed up inside your injector pump.

Try again, I use the hooked end of a scriber. Its tricky, be patient, it IS in there seeing as you have found the spring.

If that don't work, try this:

Lift up the rear carpet, under there is a cover in the floor through which you gain access to the top of the fuel tank.

On top of the fuel tank at that point is another cover with the send and return lines to the injector pump fitted through it.

Remove that cover and on the bottom of the send line will be another fine gauze filter, give that a good scrub also.

Well found the lil bugger finally. Add to the list of 101 uses for a bobby pin haha. Was the only thing i could find to fashion a suitable hook to fish the gauze out but hey it worked. Is caked full of crap couldnt see thru it. Got it soaking so should be a huge improvement. Will let know the results when its back together

Well i cleaned it out as best i could, runs a lot better now free revs to around 3500 which is plenty enough. Anyone know if nissan stock a replacement filter? I presume it is largely built up crap that recirculates out of the pump guts

Well, it made one hell of a performance increase! Its like driving a whole new truck again. And thats with the filter half clean. Must try find a new one
