Bar work in auckland

Post by gimmemud »

Hi guys looking at getting some bars made up for my surf when I come back to NZ in august. Front should be pretty straight forward but rear bar will be a bit more involved.
Can anyone point me in the direction of someone that does quick good quality work that wont cost me the earth.
Would prefer North shore or rodney area.

Cheers, Tim

shit, saw someone advertise today on TM, however "quick, good quality, and doesnt cost" = I can take a dump, throw it at your truck, spray some dry ice and hey presto, what you wanted....

get what you paid for

Don't expect it for free but have heard some prices that would make a constipated man shit a 2m long turd.
And I'm only back for two weeks so want it done quick not just someone that puts it in the back of the workshop doing an hour on it a day.

Performance Metal Works closed down the Silverdale shop.
Not sure where they operate from now, if indeed still operating as business. Contact 4WDbits to confirm.

Thought I'd finally post some pics of my bars which I am totally stoked with even though they cost a bit more than what I was thinking they would.
I could have possibly gotten them a bit cheaper somewhere else, but when I took them into Jono to draw up and quote I could tell he really knew what he was doing especially in regards to strength.
How I got them back

Super clean welds

And all blingin and painted

He even made up a removable tow bar with nice big drop down for towing at normal height then take it out for the track and slip in another one with two tow hooks

Nah that's about all the photos I've got and back in aus now. In the second photo down you can see where the side is braced, with the piped welded to the chassis and a sleeve so I can still take it off.
For the sliders he welded a couple of blazing? plates to the chassis with bolt holes and bolted them to that. With the rear bar he put a whole new bit of box section across between the end of the chassis rails with bolt holes so it can all be unbolted and a big plate where the spare tyre would normally sit under there.
Image
Where I've put the red lines is where he welded the bars to the trailgear winchplate that I got off Jafa at christmas. the two dots you can't really see because of the angle but the bars were bent under and welded there too

Yeah I reckon it's definitely worth it now. Would of done it myself if I had the time, although it wouldn't have been half as good.
I just hate paying people to do stuff I know I could have done... done very slowly but could have done.

Jono's fabrication rocks...i'd take the pepsi challange with his shit anytime...Nav'd in a blown lexus prado on 35 beadlock etremes other week, bounced out of a rut and straight into/up a 3 foot round old man pine at full throttle in 3rd with serious momentum after a 30 foot run up.....took about 10 minutes with a winch to straighten up the front bar and drive home, only 1 1/2 ripped weld (actually it was the steel bar next to the weld that had started (only started mind you) to let go....unreal.
