Home Made Body Lift???

I have been told about a DIY body lift using nylon chopping boards cut up into 'blocks'
Sounds pretty farfetched...
Anyone have opinions on this?

A 20mm chopping board is hardly worth it. Get some Nylon rod (any engineering plastics shop will have it) in a diameter to suit your existing body blocks, drill a suitable sized hole through the middle and attach with grade 8.8 bolts, washers and nylock nuts.

My first body lift was on a 60 series cruiser (12 or so yrs ago) and I did it with H3.2 pine blocks, lasted about a yr and went through 2 wof's before I changed it

Sounds dodgy to me as they are about 10mm thick so youd need 5 to get 50mm.... better off with 1 50mm thick

Where are you? Blacks in Sockburn (chch) have it. But you need to look up the Yellow pages under engineering plastics

Theres an engineering plastics in sydnam too and they sell the rod and they also cut it into blocks for you free of charge to whatever size you want.

i got uhmwpe rod from transmission house on vickery street. Use that for your lift blocks. Can get it from hcd on high street or the likes of staffords etc. They can even cut it to length for you if needed.

My old mu had a bodylift that was made up of chopping bords.Stack of about 5 Was certfied

I got uhmwpe rod (70mm from memory) about 1 metre and cut it using the radial arm saw at work. Then bored the holes using the lathe (wood working tools work with this stuff).

If you do it slowly and check everything then it doesnt need trueing up to get parallel faces.

My lift was 35mm for the body of my hilux and 50mm for the wellside. Took me about 2 hours from start to finish. Do it on perfectly flat ground or you will have body squeaks like mine (untill I redid it on flat ground).

The only bit I had issues with was the steering extension part I turned and milled out of Ali. all certed sweet though.

Have to watch the brake lines from master to chassis, The radiator shroud / fan (in case the radiator is body mounted), the hand brake cables and the fuel filler hoses/fuel lines. Might pay to check earth leads too. Loosen them all off, and then do one side at a time and when finished measure points on the chassis to the body on both sides to check its all square.

Ludowici plastics sell it in auckland, its a HDPE rod, and comes with a hole already in it if you get the right stuff, many different types and sizes to choose from. I have used this stuff on all my trucks and works a treat
