idler arm brace,is it road legal

Post by seadog »

Hi all,I am looking at getting a idler arm brace and possibly slider plates for my terrano.Does anyone know if I need to cert them?.Truck is standard apart from 31s,so dont want to spend $350 to put on a $150 dollar part.Any help would be appreciated.Cheers

I'd argue that you havn't modified anything, just added bolt on accessorys that help keep the truck warrentable after a days outing. I'd fit them, then removal for a warrent is an option if need be. You will most likely be replacing idler etc for each warrent anyway if you dont fit them. IMHO :D
If you break it... build it stronger.

I have both on my Terrano and I can confirm that they do not require a cert. You will have no trouble with a WOF either as they are a "bolt on" accessory. If they were welded to the chassis, well that's another issue.
Ok people, move along. Nothing to see here. Thank you, move along.

What exactly are the symptoms you are suffering?
What part of the country are you from?

Hi again,I am in Invercargill. When I am on a long bend it swerves a bit(like towing a trailer thats swaying around is the best comparison I can think of).Front left tire is wearing on the outside also.Hopeing a new idler arm and brace will tighten things up a bit(idler arm not looking to straight at moment). My theory is that if I stop idler moving around it might stop everything else wearing out.Truck is just a tow/hunting/holiday wagon, didnt cost a lot and I dont want it to cost a lot to keep,so looking for a "ounce of prevention".Am I on the right track??
